Hey Gang!

Recently I have been thinking about going on a 3 day sight fast. I was thinking about it and I think it would greatly increase my ability to accept God's unseen plan as well as increase faith. I know that God is the giver of faith and He doesn't withhold, but something like this would really help me. What do you guys think? let me know.

I His Service,
Matt

No I mean, blindfold myself for like 3 days. I know it would look silly but I'm not interested in what other people think. I just thought it would be interesting because we're supposed to walk by faith not by sight. Alot of the times, sight can be a hindrance.
I don't like that idea, it really goes against the biblical concepts of fasting.
[bible]Isaiah 58:1-14[/bible]
People are not suppposed to know that you are fasting (a blindfold is a bit visible to others)
[bible]Matthew 6:16[/bible]

I think it's a little different than fasting for food. If you go on a TV fast people are going to know it. I think what Jesus is saying in Matthew 6:16 is that dont fast for other's praise. When you do something, it should be the Lord you are doing it for, not for men. If you read further into Matthew 6, you can see that those who were praying on street corners and making their fasts known, were doing it only for the praise of men. I think that if you don't do it for the praise of men, it doesn't matter if they know or not.

If you go on a TV fast people are going to know it. If you still live with your parents, and you fast from food, they are going to ask why your not eating at the dinner table. The latter end of verse 16 says these words "they have their reward" -- in other words, the reward they were seeking from men, will be their only reward. I think that if you don't do it for the praise of men, it doesn't matter if they know or not.

I do agree with what you are saying about Matt. 6 but Isaiah 58 says that a day of fasting is a day of good works, a day to reach out to the needy, and a day to ionteract with people to meet there needs. That would be pretty hard if you are blind.
However I just thought. If you are going to spend a lot of this time in prayer it would be great. Actually as a I think about it, ifyou are not going to be in public. This would be a great time to pray for hours, literally. There isn't much else you could do, no even read the Bible.
Go for it but make sure God is in it. PLEASE get back to me on the spiritual benefits you receive from this fast.

May the peace of Christ be with you always.

Ok I will let you know how it works out. You made a good point about Isaiah 58, fasting is a form of reaching out to others, because you concentrate on the needs of others rather than your personal cravings. I think that if I do this "sight fast" that I will remain at home, and not go out in public. Great responses Bro.

You know, I have thought of doing this very thing myself. I'm not in a situation where I can actually do it, but I think it would be very beneficial to my soul.

In peace,
Xenia
