the bible was written by several ppl concerning the middle east 2000 years ago. it seems foolish to think its rules apply to the modern day west. why not just wait for god to announce the new rules and just live neautral lives til then? it doesnt seem right to force the rules of the bible on ppl when it clearly needs divine updates. just wait for him to tell you what to do, then once he's appeared and made his decree you know a) he exists and b) what he wants from you instead of speculating and trying to guess what he wants from you.

best be sure when it comes to eternity imo, dont you think?

Slow forum here, let's see if I can answer your question. Many Christians view the bible as eternal, that is to say always applicable. The difference, in my view, comes when people try to interpret it. Then you get differing views of Biblical Literalists, King-James-Only-ists, Liberal Christians and so on. To the former two groups, the bible isn't "clearly" in need of review.

It's all about point of view. :)

Concerning points of view, I think the bible's a fine moral text and have read much of it, but I don't revere it as the word of god or anything.

the problem that i see with this is, that old wise saying, "there is nothing new under the sun." any religious text can be fitted into the modern times, if the person would wish it to do that.

i personally see Jesus as the Logos ie "Word of God" not a cannonized book (what i find odd is Protestant Christians believe a book that was cannonzied from a church outside of their own, or a church their forefather protested from and was eventually excommunicated from as the inerrant, book that God breathed) but i do look at the Bible as a divinely inspired book that is profitable for teaching. i do believe we must use higher criticism of the scriptures to see what was meant for then, and what good we can find out of it after we critical examine everything and hold on to the good as these very scriptures tell us to do.

again it is up to the reader i suppose. we will have our own convictions/beliefs and life goes on.
