Should we have hobbies?

Well, recently, I started taking French courses, and I absolutely love French.

Though, I have to admit that my motives to start learning a new language were selfish and proud.

But now, I started to like the language, and want to continue the courses apart from pride and boasting, and I just want to learn it. Is it possible that I can separate pride from it, and continue to humbly learn the language?

If you like learning French, continue, pride would not enjoy it, because you would be forcing yourself to learn.

Hobbies IMO are find as long as they don't get in our way of serving the Lord. For that matter hobbies can also help us to minister to others Christ's Love.

Hobbies are one of the best ways of finding out who we are or how different we are from others. As a child I was thrust into a life with my father and his second wife. of which, she was a chronic alcoholic. Their fights were continuous.

So, I managed to get a Silvertone guitar, a very difficult guitar to learn on at the time and I struggled so. Later I found more expensive guitars to be much nicer and easier on the fingers.

Playing guitar has given me so much opportunity in my life. I performed for a Shah in Ethiopia when in the Navy. My brother took up the bass guitar and together we won a national contest and was sent, all expenses paid, to Prescott, Arizona to perform in front of hundreds of people, with Bo Derek as our host. My brother and I are identical twins and you can hear us perform on youtube under "vwbug1971" scroll down and you will see Denny and Dave duo. There are several songs to choose from. Music is a wonderful outlet and it makes me happy, not proud. We have an engagement this Saturday and I'm looking forward to it.......and to think we have been performing now for over fifty years..........my hobby became my closest friend when times were hard. Thank you Jesus for allowing me a hobby.

Relax. If you feel convicted of the pride than just dont talk about it, but you are aloud to feel good about being good at french. It may be a gifting that God has given you. Are gifts not GIFTS ment to enjoy?

I started Chinese lessons this past week. I spent last March in China teaching the Bible through a translator. Although I doubt I will ever gain fluency in the language, I hope to use it on my next trip, planned for this coming July.

You never know how God might use your hobby. By all means, continue learning French.

You can enjoy something without being prideful of it, as long as it doesn't get in the way of serving the Lord.
