Holidays have more to do with cultural traditions than Bible quotes. So I see no problem with this, but I am a strong believer that government policies, such as international relations, should not be based on religion.

My goodness...can the goal posts be shifted any further?

How could Christians exist pre-Easter? The fact is they didn't....

Besides, saying that one would have to show where a Roman soldier was told to leave the military in order to show Jesus was anti-war is possibly one of the most ridiculous approaches to any argument, ever.

Okay - apparently I am having trouble understanding the point you are trying to make. Let's make this simple. Are you trying to say (choose one)

1. The government should not start wars because there are quotes in the Bible that speak against it.

2. Christians that support the government starting wars are hypocrites.

3. other - please explain?

I don't know that the US needs to remain the sole superpower, but we certainly have a right to defend ourselves. Unless there is some great sin commited against others, as in Germany and Japan during the 1900's, no nation should be disarmed and should have a right to defend itself.

I voted other. The affairs of the world are the will of God. So, that means that the US as a single entity,is subject to the will of God.The US will play it's part in God's plan. Nothing we can do about that. However that does not mean that as Christians,we can engage in any atrocities commited by our govt. We are to be separate. We are to love our neighbor as ourselves. Even at the cost of our own life.

I'm not accusing Christians of being hypocrites but pointing out the obvious conflict.

The Sunday Jesus rose.

Your argument is ridiculous... sorry.

I explained why it is ridiculous to say that Jesus would have had to tell a Roman soldier.....in order to show Jesus was anti-war.

Why is my argument ridiculous? Do you even know what it is?

With the growing dissent worldwide against the U.S. and it's percieved empirical motivations, should we as a nation disarm our military and then submit to international rule?

You can't.

If the US did, it would be at the mercy of the world because of it's past conduct.

In this day and age it is a terrible thought that the world should unite under one government. Why? Because not every country believes the same thing: democracy, communism, imperialism. clergy-based, etc etc. You cannot expect to remove ALL government and expect UNITY. There would always be someone that would take advantage over this and twist it for thier own benefit, be it a group, a country, an ideal, religious, financial etc etc.

As a christian I believe that when Christ returns the government will be upon his shoulders (Isaiah 9:6) before this there will come a one-world government (Daniel 7 and Revelation) that will end up in Armeggedon/WW3. From what the bible says, trying to create this one world government is nothing but killing and wars. The only way the world works is for God to run it, we only manage to ruin things.
