This post is why evolution should be taught in schools. There's a lot of ignorance and misinformation out there about the science behind Evolution. More intensive education will go a long way towards people understanding biology, among other sciences.

Evolution is no more brainwashing than teaching kids about the water cycle or physics is. It's solid science backed with mountains of empirical evidence that has been repeatedly tested and confirmed. Evolution is simply a fact.

You do realize where the United States ranks on education, right? They'd kill to be second.

The very fact that it's debated if evolution should be taught in science class is very telling of some of the reasons why the American Education system has tumbled so far. It's more about politics rather than a proper education now.

Yeah, let's stop teaching physics too while you are at it. Too complicated. And that Pi thing, why not round it to 3? Who says it has to be 3.14159265359? That is some ridiculous theory, it should not be taught in school! The only thing that should be taught in school is religion.

Perhaps because Evolution is science.... Science tends to have a monopoly on science class.... That's kind of the point of having science class.

The value of pi assumed above is based on taking the outside measurement of the molten sea. The rim of the molten sea is a handbreadth thick. Who is to say that the measurement is not based on the inside diameter, vs the outside diameter?

I'm afraid that's an urban legend.

That being said, attempts by people to replace the ToE with Creationism have happened, and that's no better than trying to redefine pi. The only real difference is that almost everyone can recognise that redefining pi would be stupid.

If it is, then pi becomes less than 3, and the Bible is even more wrong than previously thought. At best, you could then reinterpret the circumference to be the inside circumference, at which point pi is 3 again. The Bible is wrong regardless of how you interpret it, unless you go down the "it was an approximation" route, at which point you have to wonder what else is approximated.

I see just as much evidence for evolution as there is evidence for creation. they are both true

back on topic, I think schools shouldn't offend anybody beliefs. Perhaps they should have separate classes where one teaches evolution while the other does not. Lets not get anyone upset, people.

Should the children of holocaust deniers, moon landing deniers, heliocentrism deniers and those who claim that "Elvis never did no drugs!" be given separate classes where their counter factual claims are never challenged as well or are Christian Creationists special?

Then you need to do some more research....

And we already have classes that teach evolution, and other classes that do not. For example, Evolution is taught in Science/Biology class.... Evolution is not taught in Music Class.

And that's exactly the way it should be.

So some children should leave school with an inferior education just because someone might get offended? What makes a person's feelings more important than education?
