And just whom would be the Democratic nominee then?
I'm guessing that there are mechanisms in place for a candidate dropping out for various reasons. Even without a scandal, an accident or health crisis could always force a candidate to withdraw or even make it impossible to serve as president.

Bernie Sanders who is the left-wing populist. Trump is the right-wing populist or that's what he portrayed to his supporters. They're really two sides of the same coin. Who said this, Steve Bannon.

Why is he the perfect Dem candidate? I prefer someone younger , Then Joe Biden and Trump.

The Dems had several younger picks. They are more interested in beating Trump than putting up a candidate who will represent the future of the party. Biden was always the only choice to do that.

My 11 year old nephew would beat Trump intelligent wise. Other could have been able to beat Trump. Any ways Biden is smarter than Trump. So he should win. But, So should Hillary. At least with Trump. I get to be amuse by his belief that taking disaffected cleaners would get rid of the COVID-19, and other craziness . Need I say more.

Biden may well beat Trump, but it won't do much for the party. They will still be in disarray as they would then turn on each other. And of course the country will survive as always.

I think the county will do a lot better when Trump gets out. And the Democrat party will be fine. I think as time goes by. People will stop electing Republicans.

(Disclaimer: I am not an American, so I have no influence nor a major interest in that question. Just so that you know. ;))

I would say: yes, he should. Because credible accusations of sexual assualt - even if they don't to the ultimate level - diminish his credibility. And Biden has enough problems with some of his more... eccentric... episodes.

Now, would that mean the Republicans have to get a new candidate as well?

Anyone familiar with the inner workings of the nomination process care to chime in on what become of the delegates from a candidate who exists the race? Do they get to direct them to another candidate or are they cut loose?

As with the Bill Clinton escapade, the response of the Party leaders to this sort of thing will always be to deny, deny, deny.

No matter that the same people had said that the woman must be believed. That's when the issue was about Judge Kavanaugh.

This, however, will be much like when Biden was on film confessing that he had extorted money from Ukraine. And everyone could see and hear him recounting the details and bragging about pulling it off! The response still was, no, he didn't do that.

Biden might not make it through the nominating convention, but it'll take more than this to stop it.

That's another reason Biden will almost certainly be the nominee. It's very late in American history for there to be a compromise candidate come off the convention floor on the 46th ballot and claim the nomination.

All the other possibilities have something going against them now. Almost all of them voluntarily quit the race and endorsed Biden. They aren't in a good position to say "I didn't mean it" now. As for the few "possibles" who weren't in the race--Cuomo, for example--he has so often said "NO!" that it would be awkward to try to explain away that change of heart.

Besides, in his case, he couldn't handle being governor of NY at this time and the Presidential nominee as well, nor could he get away with resigning the governorship in order to seek the Presidency since that would be seen as bailing on the people in the middle of a great crisis just because a better job offer came calling.

One more thing...the boomlet that apparently has surfaced in the past few days talking up a replacement for Biden is known to come from Bernie's people, and that right there will kill its chances with the Party regulars who have gotten behind Biden.
