Hi there,

I'm a new Christian, and a Church local to me I was Baptised in earlier this year.
I emailed the Priest last week, asking if there is anything I can help with - even though there are no service with audiences live in the Church.
The Priest got back to me, asking if I can help with the A/V of recording/streaming services online.

What I want to ask is, is this a good way to serve God and Jesus, if I undertake this volunteer task weekly at this Church?

If you're technically minded and skilled, sure. Know however, that helping with the tech team will likely require an earlier start in the morning than simply going to or tuning into the service. At my church, tech volunteers have to arrive at least an hour earlier than the first service. If you're a morning person, it's great. If not, then you might want to do something else. If you would have to round up the family to get to the church earlier than normal, then that's a hidden cost as well.

Speaking only for myself, I'd say YES!

If you are competent to do that task, it not only is essential to the functioning of this particular congregation in that there are no live audiences, but, in addition, it is a service that goes right to the heart of the religious life of the congregation--hearing the Gospel preached, fellowshipping with other members (if only by audio-video means), and so on. It also sounds like that's something that's really needed.

Well I have many years IT Tech experience, though I've never done any video streaming before. Should I still go for it?
And if it's a learning experience for me to do this task, is that good for my faith?

If you have a skill that helps your church then volunteer.

Yes,
Even if you have no real ear for music voice blending or understand the difference in EasyWorship or ProPresenter software...

You probably can understand the difference in livestreaming the devices and even do the slides as part of the regular services.

YouTube streaming vx the other forms of livestreaming...
Adding a chat box that works with the pastor's sermon really rocks.

So...yes you can remain isolated and helpful.

Yes, go for it. At least try.

How many other people in your fellowship have even the knowledge about these things that you do, streaming or no streaming? Not many, I'd guess. And maybe none, right?

If you see, early on, that it's beyond you, you can always explain and step aside in favor of some other volunteer assignment.

There are good pointers here on what to expect. Serving God at a church, is a great blessing to receive, and share. As you start, rely on the Lord to help you, especially in areas you need to learn. If God is opening this opportunity for you, He will also provide you will everything you need. From learning, to bringing people who will help you grow in the area God wants you to serve.
