I'm currently at a non-denominational church. I'm wanting to go to a Methodists church for now on. I have families in both denominations. I have studied both denominations thoroughly also. I don't feel at ease in my non-denominational church right now for personal reasons. Anyone have good godly advise?

What is it you're looking for in a church? If you searching for God's word then broaden your search and think outside of the box. Confessional churchs are where you will find the closest ties to scripture, and it is schripture that brings us closer to God :)

Well both churches use scripture a lot. My great uncle is the pastor at my non-denominational church. At the Methodist church, where I go to sometimes, they have a new pastor that likes to quote several other scriptures in his sermon sometimes. So I write them down too. My current belief system isn't affected by the Methodists at all sense I do a lot of Bible studying anyway. If a pastor gives me a scripture, I look it up.

The my current church believe in speaking in tongues, shouting, dancing, and raising hands towards God, and giving offerings. We sing new songs mostly.

The Methodist church I go to sometimes allow speaking in tongues, shouting, and raising up their hands. They give in offering but rarely give a lot. Most only give $1.00 or little more. This church also likes to sing old hymns.

If you've done reading in the OT you will find that the children of Israel were very reverant in their worship. Conservative Lutherans are as well. We believe that it shows respect to The Lord, and it fills a very deep need in us to do so. This is the way we show our love and respect to God. I know others do so in a manner as whhich you described, but you need to ask yourself, is this worship style to satisfy my need only, or is to worship The Lord as a priority.

The Methodist church I go to sometimes allow speaking in tongues, shouting, and raising up their hands. They give in offering but rarely give a lot. Most only give $1.00 or little more. This church also likes to sing old hymns.

It is said that our pocket books are tied to our hearts. A 1$ donation shows a lack of love to The Lord and His work. If we truely love The Lord we will give out of our hearts to support our Pastor, church and mission work, bot here in the US and the world.

Old hyms are great. I doubt that there are any older then sung in the Lutheran chucrh, and we prefer it that way, though we do have a few more modern hyms, but the old get the priority.

You said you like to look up scripture, which is great, but do you also do regular bible study such as reading the entire bible end to end? As I said before, God's word brings us closer to Him :preach:

Well, I actually never read the whole Bible from front to back. I mainly just look up scriptures from devotions and sermons and other bible studies on-line. I mainly work a lot now during the day. I tried to when I was younger like 18.

Just take up time daily to read, start at Gen. and keep going. You'll love it, and when you get through Rev, just start over.

30 years ago I met a man who had memorize most of the bible, I know I'll never be able to do that, but its an admirable goal.

Why are you asking us? You would be much better off asking Jesus.

Stop using your mind to decide what to do, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you.

Sometimes, I have a hard time understanding when God is speaking to me. It's not like you start hearing voices in your head.

That is true. I believe the most important step a person needs to take is one’s walk with God is to develop a personal relationship with Jesus.

I really don’t believe there is a formula as to how to develop one’s relationship with Jesus.

Getting baptized in the name of Jesus would be one step. Peter said then one receives the Holy Spirit when baptized in the name of Jesus. The Holy Spirit will communicate with the person who is willing to listen. I would believe that an important step is to hear the Word of God and do one’s best to live that Word.

I don’t know which method of communication will be chosen for any given person. I will share how God has communicated with me. That may give you an idea of some of the ways God communicates with us.

The Holy Spirit has just let me know. Can’t explain that one. He has put thoughts into my mind. That way needs discernment. Are the thoughts one’s own, or has Satan given the thoughts? Satan’s thoughts never give me peace, and sure don’t agree with the Word of God. Are the thoughts coming from God or me? Somehow that was never a problem for me. When it was God I knew the thought was not mine.

Jesus speaks to me. He uses words with me. There have been times when he has spoken audibly; and I have heard his voice in my mind. For a long time Jesus used my gift of tongue to communicate with me. I would have a question of Jesus, and I would get a tongue. My wife would get a translation of my tongue. The translation would be the answer to my question.

Later Jesus told me to pray to be sensitive, and open to his touch and to his word.

Now after over thirty years, it is almost as if I am reading his mind. I can’t explain that either. Maybe it is what Paul said that we have the mind of Jesus.

Personally I always look at the results of my walk with Jesus to discern if it truly is Jesus guiding me. I find that the fruits are good. Jesus said if the fruit is good the tree is good.

I would automatically say go where you feel the love (lol). But, sometimes depending on what God has for you and who you are in the Lord - the enemy will agitate you more in a certain church because the enemy knows your purpose. Stay Blessed! Ask God.

All the Glory Belongs To The Lord!

Go where the Holy Spirit is leading you to go. If your personal reasons are keeping you from growing spiritually I think it best that you do go, because if you are not growing, you cannot help those around you to grow either. I will pray for GOD to show you what should be done.

Go, or stay, where the church is in-tuned with the word. Everything else will fall into place. Because if you got true, unfiltered, un-exaterated word being feed into your soul, you will have a reason and will feel compelled to do what the holy spirit is telling you and guiding you to do.

Be careful of pastors/preachers who take scripture out of context. Take the scriptures you hear in sermons and take them home and read/ study them in its entire context.

Why do I think there's a story behind the "personal reasons" you want to leave the Methodist church, and that's what this is reallly all about?

Actually, I'm wanting to leave the non-denominational church, not the Methodist church.

It really does not matter what Protestant church you belong to as long as you can grow in it. What IS important is that you fellowship with fellow Believers in or outside the religious institution and keep talking to the Lord seeking His guidance in all you do.

you go to church to learn the word of God not for personal reasons.

Go where you will learn the word of God.
