Should I give up the caffeine now?

I am a big coffee drinker. I probably have about four cups between 7-11 am. Do I need to cut back now, or can I wait until I am pregnant? I was thinking about cutting back to 2-3 cups a day before ovulation and then maybe having just 1 cup in the morning during the two weeks after ovulation. What do you think? Should I just give it up completely or can I just cut back while we are TTC?

I only cut out caffiene while I was pregnant...BUT after learning a little bit about the effects caffiene has on my body in later years, I've now cut it out nearly altogether (and I can no longer have children). I think it's probably most important that you cut it out while you're pregnant, but it's just all around healthier for you if you cut it out (or back off a little) now. :wave:

:wave: I have read that while you are TTC that 2 cups a day should be your limit. The less caffeine that you can stand the better, but it is not nessesary to completely cut it out. :) Hope this helps you !! Good luck TTC, i know how it feels to question everything that you do, in hopes that a little tweek here and there will up your chances and help conceive a healthy baby:)

I remember reading that the caffeine has more affect on the sperm count than it does on a woman conceiving. So make your guy cut down/out caffeine and if that is going to be hard for him, do it with him. When you are pregnant doctors tell you that one or two cans of pop a day are okay. That much caffeine.

Thanks for the input. I just had my annual exam today and talked to the doc. She says that personally she doesn't see a problem with the amount of caffeine I drink while TTC or even pregnant, but that I might want to cut back to just 1-2 cups during pregnancy, or cut it completely if I feel more comfortable with that. So for now, I'm just going to try to drink less than usual and see how I feel.
