Should a Christian read Hitchens and Dawkins?

Proverbs 17:12;
Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man,
rather than a fool in his folly.
In Northern Alberta, the story is told of a man who met a bear robbed of her whelps. A grader operator did not return when he was expected to and an effort was made to find him. What the searchers found was the grader parked with the front tire on a dead cub grizzly bear.
The tire was flat, the door of the machine partially torn off, and the operator was never found.
Likely when mama bear heard her cub squeal, she became angry, and after assaulting the tire, discovered the tire was not the cause of the problem.
How could this be possible, this operator is better off that if he had met a fool?
Psalms 14:1 has the answer,
The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
An angry bear can take your life, but can't touch your soul.
An activist, atheist, can contribute to the losing of your soul.
Please don't read anything written by fools.
Please don't send your children to schools taught by fools.
Life is to short, and eternity is to long.

Sure. I do, and I'm still a Christian. ;)

I wouldn't read them. I'd read Hitchen's brother's books though, Peter Hitchens.

The Rage Against God - Wikipedia is a book I would like to read by him. I think it was written in response to his brother Christopher's book

The bear was the fool, obviously. To think that being bear precludes being fool is a logical fallacy.

Dawkins knows a lot about Biology, and writes about it in a very accessible way. I thought so anyway. So if you're interested in that he's definitely worth a read. His bleatings about God are rather tiresome though, as are Hitchen's. They don't manage to get past the most basic of issues, and don't appear to want to, as they appear (appeared, RIP) to be at once infuriated by the very existence of the bible and utterly against the idea of understanding what it actually is, and what is the meaning of anything written in it. The image their ideas about God conjure up for me is something like a person standing in a room that is on fire shouting 'this fire really hurts, why doesn't someone do something about it??', while refusing either to find out how to put it out, or to walk out of the open door.

1 Cor.2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

For those interested in fictional nonsense... I guess. Seems that given the brevity of life, time would be better spent reading and meditating on scripture, but to each their own.

Before you can disagree with something, you need to know what it says.
Read the books, mull over what is in them, see what you think. After that, if you disagree, you can use your knowledge of the books to argue against them.

Dawkins does some good science when his hostility to religion doesn't get in the way. I think he goes too far in attributing things to natural selection. Time and chance do happen to them all, and it does make a difference. Mathematically, we can show that neutral mutations will often become fixed in a population in the absence of natural selection.

Interesting. I was unaware of this.

Agreed. I think the world's population of straw men now outnumbers the human population. Being able to fairly express the views of your opponents is important.

However, if you're not intending to engage in that arena, then I don't see any need to read Hitchens, Dawkins, etc.

I've read Dawkins, he won't bite you, just a lot of talking in circles around how things evolve on the larger scale.

Amen! Whenever I see an atheist, I see Satan in their eyes. And whenever I see anything written by an atheist, I see the fires of Hell dancing before my eyes.

Am I the only one who thinks atheists should be exiled, if not executed?
I wonder if you're an religious fanatic ultra-fundamentalist of perverse feelings and wicked desires for atheists or if you're just another troll. If you are not a troll, I recommend that you seek help to free your mind of these outdated religious concepts.
