  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

personally my feelings on this on going debating subject is this. if you are watching secular movies and the movies are getting away from your Relationship with Jesus Christ and your spending more time and more forcus on watching secular movies (from what ever genre Romance Comedy Horror etc.....) and not spending more time and devotion with your lord and savior. Then i feel thats when its time for you to look for more cleaner movies to be watching and to also be spending more time with God as well

many people here will prob disagree big time with my statements though that i made. since i'm not the best for putting my words out right and well

your thoughts and comments!

I feel no problem in it, if that is you can handle it, and you can understand. It depends on ur views, on ur conscience. Cussing ppl can aruge is alright or its wrong, depending how you use it or why. Violence and gruesome acts are alright to me, I mean it's just understanding it's not real, and that it is wrong. I like scary movies, usually gruesome and sadly very secular. The only thing I dislike in movies is nudity, no not rear, just frontal, I can handle looking at a person butt, and sometimes it's just plain funny, but frontal nudity is usually not needed, nor is sex and I find that to be a problem. Other than nudity, I dont get offended by anything, although lately because of a problem I had with language, I've cut back so that I don't have any pressure. But that's just me, and in these days of age, I think it's more society telling us right and wrong and not God. This is just my opinion.

i agree. as long as you know that Most of the secular movies that are playing now a days (from any movie genre) if you relize that its all Fake and not real at all. Then its not a problem for me either. But then again theses are just my opinions on this subject once again

I am very offened by the gratuitous nudity in so many movies nowdays. I don't think Christians should watch those movies that have nudity, or they should watch the cleaner, revised versions.

I never understood this. Why does nudity offend many people (including or especially christians). I regard the human body as a beautiful thing, worthy of observation and acknowledgement. Wouldn't a Christian regard the human body as a work of art by God? Doesn't make sense to me.

Remember when Adam and Eve found out that they were naked? They became ashamed.

We were created nude, but nudity really should only be exposed to a doctor, family, or husband/wife.

Also ,with today's perverted society, becoming nude would lead to more raping.

I agree that nudity is a very beautiful thing. But it is also a private thing that should occur only between husband and wife. To make a mockery (for lack of a better word) of something so special by having so many women take their clothes off for millions of people to see is sad.

Many people don't see nudity in movies as beautiful or art anyway. It leads to lustful thoughts in many people, especially men. The women are being degraded and objectified.

Nudity, in and of itself in not sinful. God created the human body, and it is beautiful. The problem is not the nudity, but the LUST after the naked body. And, in movies, the reason for nudity is 99.99% to create lust, and not to praise the creation of our God.

Should Christians watch secular movies? Absolutely.

Christians have a terrible record of cutting themselves off from secular society when our founder set the ultimate example of doing the exact opposite. Did Jesus come to earth and hang around in the temple the whole time? For that matter, did he come to earth or stay in heaven? Just like Jesus, we're called to live in the world. Creating a Christian subculture to live in defies that mission.

Many Christians will watch secular films - but still with the wrong approach. They'll sit their with their little internal checklist turned on marking off when the film has something Wrong in it. "Ooh, a swear word. That's one point." It means they never really let the filmmakers do their job. CS Lewis talked about surrendering to a story in order to recieve what a story presents: "Get yourself out of the way. (There is no good asking first whether the work before you deserves such a surrender for until you have surrended there is no possible way you can find out.)"

Make no mistake - story is a key element of any culture, and at this point in time in ours, film is the most common method people recieve stories. Books, whether we like it or not, are on the sharp decline. Christians need to engage the culture around them, and if we can't handle watching secular films, we're going to have a lot of trouble relating to people.

It really depends on the individual. I know secular people that won't watch most movies released today because they find them offensive. I, honestly, don't have a problem with the nudity or violence. I do have a big problem with extreme cussing and taking the Lords name in vain, but taking His name in vain is getting even worse on TV itself and that saddens me. It's a big lack of respect to Him and to those who believe in Him.

I worked as an Emergency Medical Technician for over 7 years before I got into computers. I guess because I've seen even worser things in real life, watching it in a film doesn't bother me. Don't get me wrong... I feel for the person and the loved ones they leave behind, I really, really do. Nothing tears at my heart more than seeing people in pain over the loss of someone they cared about or loved. It's the blood and guts and yes, nudity that I've been exposed to too much and just doesn't have shock value anymore. That and the fact that you know the violence isn't real in a movie. ;)

However... I would never watch a movie like 28 Days Later... with someone else present that I know is very sensitive to it. Bottom line, if you know a particular movie is going to affect you negatively, I'd suggest watching something else.

True, I will gage what I am watching to those around me. I am not easily offended. Many of todays comedys are nothing but profanity, which used sparingly is ok, every other word is not for me.

I love movies... :) even secular ones... well actually, ONLY secular ones because Christian ones, save for Passion of Christ, are all cheaply made and of poor quality.

What kind of witness is it to have cheap videos when we are supposed to be about excellence for Christ?

I have made this point in the secular music charts over and over, that most Christian media is of poor quality. Music, books and movies included.....
