  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Being relatively new to this whole "photography" thing, I've been experimenting with different subjects. Here are some recent experiments with aquarium photography.

Technical details: Shot with a Canon Digital Rebel XT and 50mm f/1.4 lens at f/2 to f/3.5. Flash was used for most of the images.

Very nice. Is this your aquarium or a public aquarium?

Thank you. It's my aquarium. I have a 48 gallon freshwater tank that's currently home to two gouramis, two golden ram cichlids, two angelfish, one high-fin pleco and one siamese algae eater.

Can you share the technical details of how you obtained the shots? We have the lens and stuff, but did you use filters, tripods, etc?

Nope, no filters, tripod or anything else. They were all shot handheld from a distance of a foot or so.

Oh that is fantastic!! I love those photos, and they are done so perfectly. I have an aquarium too, but so far only 3 goldfish. I hope to take the goldies back and get some tropicals, but for now we enjoy watching the goldies go about their business. They are growing at a fantastic rate since they are in a 37 gallon aquarium. I should try to take some pictures of them.
