Ps 139:5-11

You hem me in - behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;

Psalms 119 is probably my favorite part of the Bible. I have always heard that when you try to have quiet time studying your Bible, the Devil will distract you in someway. By reading one of the Psalms of 119, that is helping you put away the distractions.

I also find interesting that each and everyone of them have exactly 8 verses each.

I love the psalms, I go there a lot when I am down or hurt and personalize scripture into a prayer from me to God and He uses that to comfort me, one of my favorite chapters is Psalms 91!

~ Psalm 23:4-5 ~

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil, for you are with me;

your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

The Lord holds each of His children in the palm of His hand. Although He leaves us here on earth, sometimes surrounded by hostility, we can rest assured that nothing can snatch us away from Him. He pours His blessings upon us, and His love flows through us to touch the lives of others.

My wife and I read from the Psalms each weekday morning. We average 8 a day and make our way through "the prayer book of the Church" in a months time. This has been our practice for the last 3+ years.

In addition to these daily readings, the offices of the Church are full of the Psalms. Divine Liturgy, vespers, matins, compline, et al. are filled with the Psalms or quotes from the Psalms.

I say all of that to say this, the Psalms are my favorite book of the Bible period. I am fully convinced that one can know God entirely through the Psalms. If you know the Psalms, then the Gospel of St. Matthew comes alive.

I do not have one favorite Psalm or one verse. Each speaks new to me each day. However, Psalm 50 (LXX), David's Psalm of repentance, is the only one I know entirely by heart. And I pray this one daily.

God is all-seeing and all-knowing ,all powerful and everywhere present. God knows us,God is with us, and His greatest gift is to allow us to know Him.

Psalm 26:6-8 ~
I wash my hands in innocence, and go about your altar, O LORD,
proclaiming aloud your praise and telling of all your wonderful deeds.
I love the house where you live, O LORD,
the place where your glory dwells.

Isn't His loving grace something awesome?!! These verses give me assurance that when I come before His throne in repentance, seeking His forgiveness, He cleanses me from all sin, and I stand pure in the righteousness of Christ. I can then draw near to Him, enjoying the peace and joy of His presence. Blessed is His holy name!
