Dear Daily Message Readers,
READ: Exodus 4:1-17
Exodus 4:10 (NLT) But Moses pleaded with the LORD, O Lord, I'm just not a good speaker. I never have been, and I'm not now, even after you have spoken to me. I'm clumsy with words.
Two men were walking through a field one day when they spotted an enraged bull. Instantly they darted toward the nearest fence. The storming bull followed in hot pursuit, and it was soon apparent they wouldn't make it.
Terrified, the one shouted to the other, "Put up a prayer, John. We're in for it!"
John answered, "I can't. I've never made a public prayer in my life."
"But you must!" implored his companion. "The bull is catching up to us."
"All right," panted John, "I'll say the only prayer I know, the one my father used to repeat at the table: 'O Lord, for what we are about to receive, make us truly thankful.'"
This story should bring a smile to your face. It did to me. But maybe our reasons for smiling are different. For me, this story illustrates the very basics of Thanksgiving. You see, too many of us go to our annual Thanksgiving dinner and never truly thank God for His goodness. Like the man saying the prayer, we may be too embarrassed to say such prayers in front of our family and friends. So we run away from the issue, leaving another witnessing chance until next year.
God calls on every Christian to share His wonderful acts even after Thanksgiving. If we are to afraid to make this a habit, then we must change our attitude. Make an effort today to recognize the blessings you have come to take for granted. Share these with your family and friends this holiday.
Faith Lesson: Focus on what you have rather than on what you dont have.
In Christ,
Darin Smith
