  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Okay, I got a mini sewing machine for christmas and it's intended use is for Scrapbooking (I'm serious too). And that's what I intend on using it for but...uhhh...how does one sew? I feel like a total blonde here. I've seen it done before, but never really paid attention. I did some sewing about four years ago, but that was on a completely different machine and...I really don't exactly remember. Anyone have any tips for helping a blonde out?

Most sewing machines have basic features but the first thing I would advise you to do is to sit down with your machine and the instruction manual and read through every page. Have some scrap material on hand and when it shows you how to thread the machine, try to sew a straight line to see if the machine is threaded correctly and it will also get you used to your machine. Each sewing function should be experimented with at least once. This is a great way to get to know your machine and learn all the little tricks it can do. Once you go through the book, I'm sure it will come back to you.
These things can be intimidating, but just take it one stitch at a time. You'll do fine!

Once you start sewing and get the hang of using your machine you might want to check out a book by Simplicity. It gives you machine basics as well as sewing basics. It covers a lot of ground as far as sewing goes and I highly recommend it. The title of the book is Simplicity's Simply the Best Sewing Book. You can find it at most libraries and you can purchase it at book stores and fabric stores.

Hope you are having fun and enjoying your new sewing machine.
