Seven Spirits of God

Question, what is the seven Spirits of God?

I have looked at other verses that mention this, and I have found this verse:

John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;http://www.christianforums.com/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=364#_ftn1 - Revelation 1:4 (KJV)

Also look at Revelation 4:5 and Revelation 5:6.

So what are peoples view point on this?

They are the "Glory" of God, my friend. Notice the number 7, the number of "completeness." It's kinda hard to explain and I am heading to church in about a minute. Hopefully that quick background provides some insight.

Here in Isaiah the 7 spirits are listed.


Isaiah 11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

Thats a good explination, but I have a question "People say the Spirit of the Lord is in fact the Holy Spirit (which is God), so how can there be seven spirits, of which the Holy Spirit is only one of?"

The Spirit of the Lord or the Holy Spirit would be one of the 7 spirits of the Lord.
Yes, the spirit of fear is also of the Lord's 7 spirits.

Scripture says there are 7 seperate spirits. Now if they were all apart of the Holy Spirit, that makes it that there are 7 parts to the HS.

We could end up saying then that there are 9 in the God head (I have heard this preached)

I am not to sure the Isaiah verse is satisfactory, I have not studied this much but I can go either way. In scripture, there are about 7 ways the Lord reveals himself visually to people: Fire, Smoke, Light, etc., off the top of my head I forget the rest, but perhaps I can find the rest later on.

I can see your point about how they appear to be distinct.

Let me pull up a few referances to these 7 spirits.

Exodus 28:3 And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron's garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office.

1 Samuel 10:6 And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

2 Chronicles 19:7 Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

The Spirit of the Lord reffers to the sevenfold Spirit of God (cross referance Rev 4:5) described here in relation to His seven attributes.
