• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. If we harbor any bitterness in our heart, big or small, we will not be able to understand or perceive what our Father has for us that will set us free from unwanted Mental Disorders or Health issues . If we are not able to fully forgive all who have harmed us then we have a problem and it must be dealt with.

Jesus says in Matthew 13:13-15

This is why I speak to them in parables: "Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: " 'You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.'

If we call ourselves Christians and claim Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we must forgive all who have harmed us.

Jesus also says in Matthew 6:14-15
"For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins".

Do we see the importance of forgiveness? Without forgiving others and being forgiven we are lost and we are out of the favor of our Father no matter what we say. We are unable to hear and understand the words of our Father and furthermore unable to please Him by following His Commands and principles.

Jesus “is the way, the truth and the life” and the message that He has brought to us instructs us correctly on how to live our lives. We must enter through the “gate” by following the teachings that He brought to us which leads us into a perfect relationship with them.

For those of us that want to be completely healed start the process by saying this prayer:

Wonderful Heavenly Father,

I humbly come before you this day asking you to help me receive the truth that you give to all those who desire a better relationship with you.

I fully submit to you as my teacher and forsake all others so that I will become more like you.

Burn a desire in me so that from this day forward I will seek you with all of my heart, with all of my soul, with all of my strength and with my entire mind.

Please take away any hardness that I have in my heart because I here and now forgive all those who have harmed me.

I also ask you to fogive these same people.

Now Father, forgive me of my sins so that I might be healed and open to understand the message that you have given to me through your Son Jesus Christ.

In Jesus name I declare and ask these things…Amen!

Because I dont think I can enjoy peoples presences... and dont speak much to people... (maybe in a group converation at a place for six hours I will speak 10 words an hour? ) not interested in superficial talk and feel a stranger as a consequence maybe? so I dont feel connected to the people even to be able to do a good work to people in real life..

Like feeding the homeless... I cant carry on a conversation and that I think they will think that I am more poor than them (because im very mute I think )
I dont think I can get involved much in other peoples lives and feel connected..

But I believe this is from the hand of God and serves a purpose and at this time maybe I am meant to be like this...

I dont think its a lack of social skills it might be but I dont think that training will help much in this area because I feel I had enough social skills as a child and if its gone maybe its because of the depression.. and the social skills still wont help me feel connected enough I think

I think God might be trying to get me to learn stillness.. and other stuff..

I dont think I have suicidal thoughts anymore.. I sleep normal hours, no more insomnia my countencance is not depressed any more I think ...
(but I get happy for different reasons than others I think ... things that make others happy which they would expect make me happy I think , I believe Do not )

So it doesnt seem like I have the symptoms of depression anymore ..(but there are other ones)

I read some of a nice book "Conquering depression" and Alot of other spiritual material (?) which I think helped alot.. and I didnt take medication for a long time.. maybe 2 weeks...
But I took .. Sam-E (But It seems I was better before them anyway) which I dont know if they helped
and also took other stuff and tried other things.. I think Prayer, bible reading, confession , reading spiritual books and material help the most...

But I think I might have ADD from a brain wave thing

But the thing is I am very very silent... get weary quickly from socialising (maybe because I feel a stranger or social anxiety - which I think isnt as bad as before? )

Maybe its because I feel that most words that comes out of my mouth are sinful.. but even before I was still very silent but maybe this makes me more?

Dear mikeforjesus,

Did you know that making mistakes or saying the wrong thing is a "normal" part of "seeking God"...

We are supposed to make mistakes because that is how we learn. If we did everything right from the beginning then we would not experiece God's wonderful forgiveness and His encouragement. We would also not be able to minister to others because we would have no understanding of what they were going through.

When we fall God is there to comfort us...

We are to overcome the World and mistakes are to be expected.

For many years I suffered from Agoraphobia, a condition that kept me indoors and away from people. I had panic attacks when I drove on the freeway and I had to pull over. I was very afraid of heights. I was afraid to die and the list goes on.

God healed me completely and He is going to heal you as well. I believe that so keep seeking Him by continuing to do what you said helped you the most!

"I think Prayer, bible reading, confession , reading spiritual books and material help the most..."

By the way I enjoy chating with you...

God loves you mikeforjesus and so do I!

Great post.

I was a conditional forgiver. For example one situation where I would forgive this [articular person but ONLY if God completely removed every trace of them from my life. I wasn't able to forgive completely until a few nights ago when I realised that no matter how good I thought I was and how I felt I was the victim, I still broke every commandment. So I am guilty before God. Realizing that helped me forgive others.

Now I am on my way to complete and total freedom.

Dear Missionary1, I read and prayed this prayer over and over again and I want to thankyou because I really didn't know where to start! I really had just wrote the letter before but I think it was a good step to take as well... Forgiveness is so important for a christian to do... Before now, I never really thought about it much... I always thought I would forgive no matter what for what Christ did for me... I guess forgiveness still takes time, but a christian never really wallows in the mud for too long... God is testing my heart because I asked Him before, quite awhile ago, to see whether or not I am actually living the way He wanted me to live and to strengthen my faith. 1John, 2John, and 3John give ways for someone to question their salvation and I think it is a good thing to do... at least to make sure that we are really living the way God wants too. I really do think I have forgiven my dad now... but there is one question though... If you forgive someone, can you still be hurt by it? I mean, if someone burns your arms off, you still live with the consequences... Do you still have pain sometimes from memories or depression? I don't know or not seeing this is the first day I really believe I forgave him... I just need to know if my OCD thoughts will go away now or what... If I still have OCD and obsessively bad thoughts, does that mean I haven't forgiven him or myself yet? I got to go, the lab is closing! Lily00

Lily00 you have asked some very important questions...

Jesus told his disciples that whoever they forgive will be forgiven and whoever they hold accountable will be held accountable. What was given to them is for us as well. In John 17 Jesus tells us this. Please read all of John 14,15,16 and 17. You will find it life giving!

When we forgive those who have hurt us we do two things:

1) We say out loud that we forgive them (name everyone that we can think of who has hurt us) for what they have done to us. Once we have done this we must ask our Father if there is anyone else who we "need" to forgive. When someone comes to mind that we have not mentioned forgive them as well.

2) We then ask our Father in heaven to forgive them also. He will do it because we have asked Him to do so.

THEN...We ask our Father to forgive us of "all" our sins. It is written that He will do this for us because we have forgiven "all" others.

We must never "RESENT" those we have forgiven!

Satan will come to us when we have done this and try to get us to admit that we have not forgiven "all" who have harmed us. He wants us to become "Resentful" towards them.

When Satan does this we must tell him the following:

It is finished Satan! I have forgiven (Name the person) and our Father has forgiven (Name the person). Leave me now.

When you do this Satan will flee because you have turned away from "sin", the act of Bitterness and Resentment towards others.

We must count the cost of everything that we do and say. When we forgive we will be attacked. We must understand and be prepared for these attacks.

As soon as I tell Satan this he leaves my thoughts, therefore allowing me to keep my eyes on our Savior and Father in heaven.

Don't be afraid of Satan. We have been given power to choose what is right in our Father's eyes and we have the power "to do" what is right in our Father's eyes.

This method works because it is scriptual.

When we forgive others it is finished! When we ask our Father to forgive (heal) us He does and we must by Faith accept it.

A heavy weight will be lifted from our shoulders and we will feel completely releaved.

I will say it again, it is finished when we forgive others!

You enjoyed talking (or typing) to me ? :) thats good to hear

Still I have to say that there is still another important thing I believe you must do to be forgiven (I really want noone to be offended) ... YOU MUST CONFESS TO GOD IN THE PRESENCE OF A PRIEST

(A priest who descends from the apostles (?) - not by physical birth)

As in the early centuries of christianity? The authority given to the Disciples of Jesus to loose and bind is for the priest ?

Interesting mikeforjesus...

It is OK for us to differ on this. My understanding is as follows:

Jesus says in John 17 (Amplified)

20 Neither for these alone do I pray [it is not for their sake only that I make this request], but also for all those who will ever come to believe in (trust in, cling to, rely on) Me through their word and teaching,

21 That they all may be one, [just] as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be one in Us, so that the world may believe and be convinced that You have sent Me.

22 I have given to them the glory and honor which You have given Me, that they may be one [even] as We are one:

23 I in them and You in Me, in order that they may become one and perfectly united, that the world may know and [definitely] recognize that You sent Me and that You have loved them [even] as You have loved Me.

24 Father, I desire that they also whom You have entrusted to Me [as Your gift to Me] may be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory, which You have given Me [Your love gift to Me]; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.

25 O just and righteous Father, although the world has not known You and has failed to recognize You and has never acknowledged You, I have known You [continually]; and these men understand and know that You have sent Me.

26 I have made Your Name known to them and revealed Your character and Your very Self, and I will continue to make [You] known, that the love which You have bestowed upon Me may be in them [felt in their hearts] and that I [Myself] may be in them.

According to Jesus, all that the Disciples were given is available to us as well. The kingdom of heaven is when the Father and Son come to dwell within us. When we become "one" with Jesus we are also "one" with our Father...

Please tell me more about your understanding...

Thank you

I dont have much to say about that part of the bible ... but ofcourse I dont think that we are one with the Father in the same way Jesus is One with Him. Jesus is God and has been from the beginning.. which I think you agree to.

But there is I believe many writings from church fathers who lived not very long (a few centuries after) after Jesus death who write about the importance of confession to a priest and believers taking jesus' real body and blood in communion.

I think it would be a good idea to talk to a oriental orthodox priest who can discuss better than me about this..

I have forgiven those who have forsaken me. I am hurt but I hold no resentment. I have more painful memories but I am still living. satan can not rule over me because God is my Father. He is my saviour. He is my deliverer. He fuels my spirit. He keeps me living. He keeps me fighting. He gives me love and compassion and forgiveness... I can't hold resent against myself either for being a sinner for all sin and fall short of the glory of God... if I hate myself for what I do, then it just lets satan win and I refuse to let him take advantage over me anymore. I have forgiven my father, I have forgiven myself and it is over. It is over. It is all over and I can move on by the grace of God... We are the children of God and by Him we shall be set free. I sing praise to His holy name and I yearn to be closer to Him in every way. Whatever memories come back... it is the past and I can't look back... God is there right in front of me... Practice what I have suggested... Satan will flee if you use this method.

God bless you

I dont have much to say about that part of the bible ... but ofcourse I dont think that we are one with the Father in the same way Jesus is One with Him. Jesus is God and has been from the beginning.. which I think you agree to.

But there is I believe many writings from church fathers who lived not very long (a few centuries after) after Jesus death who write about the importance of confession to a priest and believers taking jesus' real body and blood in communion.

I think it would be a good idea to talk to a oriental orthodox priest who can discuss better than me about this..
Your belief seems interesting. I confess everything to Christ though for He is my saviour, Father, and deliverer. We become one with God when we let go of everyone who has hurt us and just trust Christ and ask Him in our lives... everything seems so much happier. I go by the word of the Lord for those words were breathed out through Him. I wish you the best and thank you for your response. We are all one through Christ no matter what our beliefs are. Satan's attacks are normal for a Christian. We expect them and we must be prepared for them. He only has power over us if we give in to him. You must fight him with the Word of God each and every time...
