  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How can I serve God in the classroom while drawing people to want to know more about being a Christian?

Col 3:23,24

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."

Diligence in all you do you will attract people. Diligence displays an inner strength and drive which comes from a desired goal. It's also an example of responsibility which wins respect. Respect is the "honey" which attracts "flies".

It's not WHAT you do that is so important, but HOW you do it.

The classroom can be a rough place to show God's love to people, but I think an overall attitude of joy and respect can do a lot. Be intentional about sharing your faith to people and, if they are ready, be ready to tell them the story of a Saviour who died for them.

Show them first?

None of us are perfect and if you counter everything wrong they do they will look (and find) all of your faults too...and you'll be defending yourself rather than God.

Yes, a good attitude. Things will not always be rosy for you but they will watch and see how you come through it. As I've said, the world asks why do bad things happen to good people (and thus questions the existence of a loving God) I say when bad things happen to a good person, watch how God brings them through it.

Make sure you aren't trying to win the college all by yourself.
Keep control of the chats you have when it comes to their asking questions or making negative statements. Choose your battles. Let some things roll for now, keep them in mind (and check up verses for countering.) Keep the chat/conversation on track. It's common for others to fire questions at a believer in rapid fire.

Take the main underlying topic and keep returning to it: WHO do you believe Jesus was/is? Always return to that because until they find that answer for themselves, they can't understand the other answers you may give.

This is good advice. Here is some from a Godless Atheist.

First be a friend.

Second do not quote scripture unless it is to explain what Christianity teaches.

Third do not always be bringing up Jesus or Christianity. Show you have other interests that Christianity does not suck the life out of the rest of your life. Be patient. The same argument that would get nothing but argument back if YOU were the one to start the conversation will often be well received if it is an answer to their question.

And last be a friend first. See each person as a person, not as a member of a class called unbelievers or Muslims or anything else.

Some here consider me anti Christian. Yet three of the men I admire the most were Christians. C.S. Lewis, Dietrich Bonheoffer and Bishop Shiel (Chicaco). And I have a very positive view of The Socety of Friends (Quakers), but then I owe them. In all these cases it is because they gave respect to non-believers or reached out to help others with out respect to race or religion. In Bonheoffer's case just where his Friendship with Kokorin (an atheist) ranked compared to Christian ceremony says volumes.

EDIT: Why should you consider listening to an atheist? Perhaps because I would be quite happy to contribute to the growth of the next Bonheoffer, Lewis or Shiel. I'm quite happy with Christians who fit the ancient insult of being 'little Christs'. I think my advice is what is apt to lead toward that path as opposed to Bible Thumpers that I find annoying.
