An Original Work / July 26, 2012
Based off Romans 1:1-17

Servant of the Lord;
For the gospel you’re set apart.
Promised through the prophets of old:
Jesus, Son of God.
Through Him, and for His name alone,
We receive His grace
To call people, Him to obey;
Coming from their faith.
Servant of the Lord,
For the gospel you’re set apart.
Promised through the prophets of old:
Jesus, Son of God.

You belong to Christ;
Loved by God, and called to be saints;
Serving God with whole heart and mind;
Preaching Jesus Christ;
Always praying for others’ needs;
Helping hand to lend;
Giving courage to others’ faith,
For the praise of God.
You belong to Christ;
Loved by God, and called to be saints;
Serving God with whole heart and mind;
Preaching Jesus Christ.

Servant of the Lord;
Of the gospel, I’m not ashamed;
For salvation, power of God
To those who have faith.
In the gospel find righteousness:
Being right with God.
Turn from sin, and trust Jesus Christ.
By faith, live in Him.
Servant of the Lord;
Of the gospel, I’m not ashamed;
For salvation, power of God
To those who have faith.

I know a friend, Anthony, who has been a missionary for twenty years. A brilliant student from the same school, he earned a scholarship to read engineering at a university in Europe. After graduation, he worked in an established global corporation for about seven years; and subsequently made a sacrificial choice to become a missionary. In 2002, he and his wife went to South America for training, which included learning a new language, then proceeded to Mozambique in Africa. Unexpectedly, in 2006, I happened to meet and chat with Anthony over coffee and toast in Singapore, before they returned to the field again. Together with their children, they lived in the village and integrated with the natives, working in practical ways, such as building the farm irrigation system and harvesting crops. Being the few people with cars, they drove people to the city hospital sometimes, and brought necessities for the villagers when they went to town. Anthony’s wife tutored their children in their studies at home. Several years later, a few natives turned to God. Later, more believed, and a Christian community was formed. As the congregation grew further, Anthony taught them to sustain themselves so that they could continue as a church. After their ministry was largely completed, the family returned to Singapore permanently at the end of 2023, about the same time as their son’s graduation from university; while their daughter began her sophomore year soon after.
