• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Does anyone else here have problems with sensory issues / impairment, please ? It is just that i struggle alot with this at the moment. I have A.S/ autism. I find that the more stressed i am, generally, the worse my sensory difficulties are. My sensory impairment also makes me very stressed ! I suffer with meltdowns and shutdowns , frequently, which can be distressing. Have folk any helpful tips on coping with sensory overload, please ? My husband works with people with classic autism, and they have special sensory rooms, which help them to de-stress , i think.

I have written several posts on sensory issues on this forum about a year ago... I have been in intensive therapy lately and have not had internet access to keep up with questions like these... I asked a while ago to make these into stickies a couple of times but no one has... I will bring my articles to the front since there appears to be a new set of curoious people...but here is one to start with...

As for help... I strongly suggest finding an OT that is familiar with sensory integration... they will assess you as an individual and share with you many things that you can try to see what works for you... for me... I do a variety of things but my main thing that helps me is my weighted blanket and a specialized headphone system designed for auditory processing. Being a single adult however I forget to do them and still have alot of difficulty with them. If you are interest here is the link... but you can only order them through a trained OT...

and here is a list of websites on sensory integration stuff on my kaboodle web page...

I hope these things help.
