I'm cross posting this here as I think the College/Bible College forum might be the wrong audience...

I have been out of school for a LOOOONNNNNGGGG time and am feeling called to get back into school - and I'm taking this one step at a time instead of getting ahead of my calling. Maybe I'm not being called into ministry, but I know that I'm called into formal theological education.

What I'd like to do is take an online course over the summer from an accredited institution. I'd prefer it not to be an accelerated course as I'm not sure I can handle that sort of load.

Any suggestions?

Accredited is the key term- I'm perusing as well, and I'll let you know if I stumble across anything!

Last night I applied to Liberty University. I know this will be a controversial claim, but I was a little bit concerned about their ties to the late Jerry Falwell - his comments on 9/11 never sat well with me - but was able to move past that from a logical point of view. They are also accredited and I know their theology - even the minor points I may not agree with - going in.

They waived the application fee and I can be taking classes by this summer.

Awesome! I see they're accredited by SACS-COC... I could have sworn that I saw something not-so-good about that agency, but Google has failed me, so I suppose I am thinking of a different accreditation that had issues!

EDIT: Their programs look pretty incredible! I am glad they take them all the way through the Doctorate level!

I have completed 69 hours in the seminary at Liberty University Online. Technically, the seminary is Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. I have nothing but great things to say about LU Online. The professors are very helpful. LU courses are a challenge, but I wouldn't want it any other way. I am a graduate student. I cannot comment on their undergrad programs except to say I befriended a few undergrads online and they were satisfied as well.

Northwest Nazarene University in Idaho offers a good online program leading to an MA. Most seminaries anymore will allow you to go anywhere from 1/3 to 2/3 of a Master's of Divinity online, but want you to be in residence for the last part.

Hi, that's useful information. Spurgeon's College London is training people by distance for a Bachelors degree in Ministry and Theology, but the practical work which happens in a local church is well integrated with the learning journals and assessments, and interviews are used as well. So by the end of the course the college knows its students pretty well.
Here in the UK it's not uncommon to find students doing two or three degrees in ministry, theology and related subjects before they have jumped through the hoops for ordination. That can be becuase of the protracted and difficult nature of applying - in often rapidly fading denominations, and also because some will end up in non-denom churches and church planting or different forms of pioneering mission.
