Isn't reading a self help book written by someone else who tells you how to help yourself, an oxymoron? You aren't self helping yourself, you are following a plan of help devised for the masses, right?

Are they okay to read? I guess so, unless they are those books like "Care of the Soul" by Thomas Moore and the like who are basically secular humanists trying to convince you that all you need to know is within you.

On the other hand the book "inside Out" by Larry Crabb is a work of art, and I would hope that everyone would try to read it at least once. Blew me away.

Most self help books imply that we have the power to change or control our lives and happiness. I believe it is false to assume that we have the power to control our happiness. The simple truth is that we can not help our selves. Apart from God's grace we are doomed to failure.

Mat 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
