I recently went through a supervisory course in which I was taught how to increase subordinates self-esteem.

It was an incredible waste of time. It would have been just as effective had a memorandum been sent out to all supervisors stating "Remember to make your subordinates to feel good about themselves today."

Here is an article that is very similar to the training we received for ELEVEN HOURS over the course of two days.

I'm just curious as to everyone's take on this. Is it a bunch of bunk? Just common sense? Or is this training really neccessary to increase productivity?

I look forward to hearing your opinions.

Before I get any angry PM's, I should state my opinion.

This article is regarding parents and their toddlers.

I think that this is pretty much common sense. Any parent who loves their child wouldn't even need anything like this, yet, this sort of training program for parents can be found all over in my area.

If you have a kid, you shouldn't need to be told to remember to give them hugs and tell them you love them and that they're special. If that doesn't come naturally, someone's done something wrong in THEIR upbringing.

[GLOW=skyblue]I read the article in the link as well as a couple of others, and I think the British actually have a better concept of raising children than Americans do! Really, when you look at it, allowing people, especially children, to develop their self esteem is nothing but basic common sense. [/GLOW]

I agree that it is pretty much common sense, but you would be surprised at how many *generations grow up without thier parents giving them a hug or basic self esteem and self worth. It's sad. :( So they don't know *how to cultivate a child's self esteem and self worth.

In a grocery store just last week, I actually heard a woman tell her daughter that we wished she'd never had her. :( I couldn't believe my ears. The kid was about 6 yrs old and she tried to ask her mom a question and the mom told her to shut up that's she's getting on her nerves then she said she wished she had never had her and she said it straight to the kid! The poor kid didn't say another word. :( What does that do for that poor kid's self esteem!!
