I am new to this forum and to making posts, but I am seeking communion with others to find some insight, challenge, growth and ultimately peace for where I am.

I have been an active practicing Christian all of my life. I understood who Jesus was as a little child and was baptized Roman Catholic. After some falling away from God, I sought him out but was “Excommunicated” from the Roman Catholic Church due to that behavior. I went to other Catholic (Old Catholic) organizations only to be finding not the truth but others truth that was cemented in worldly nonsense (Canon and Rules). Ultimately God put my wife in my life who guided me to the bible and then the Holy Spirit spoke to me. I reaccepted His influence in my life in 2003 (officially). My wife and I have been side by side since. We worshipped together and still. We spend our time building into others outside of church. We are struggling at this time as the churches we used to go to have changed and are no longer multidimensional. They serve the millennials and children. Our generation (Gen –X) has been forgotten.

I came back to God due to great teaching and some good old fashioned Hymns. I began to get into the contemporary worship in 2000- 2009, but Contemporary changed to Jesus Culture and 3 chord songs that sing of relationship only. It does not speak to either me or my wife. WE HUNGER for GOD and to Worship Him. We have not found a church that is anywhere close to where we want to be. They all seem to teach to the newest Christian and do not speak to mature Christians at all. The Small Group experience does not work for us. We are looking for Community and what we are getting is baby teaching. We would rather spend our time ministering to others with our outside ministry and not constantly reaching in.

We are often getting our best times when we do not go to church but spend time with Him together and worship with what we had in our past. We then listen to a pod cast and talk about it.

Please let me know if you can understand what I have here. We do not think we are alone in this.

Welcome, I believe I understand what you mean by the contemporary churches. Perhaps try a more "high"service church such as Lutheran? There area also Lutheran churches that have contemporary "seeker service" type worship, so look for one that says "traditional service". For me, the traditional liturgy is a God send and draws me much closer to Him than a basic format seeker service. There is actually a lot of information on "seeker" services and the issues they cause for maturing believers. But that is a topic for another thread.

Welcome, it is great to have you.

Hi Jeff; I'm glad the Lord lead you back to Him; this forum and that He used music to do it; I think music is one of the best ministry tools; no matter what age bracket you fall into; when we get home to Jesus; there wont be any age differences. So I want to welcome you to CF; May the Lord Jesus guide you here as well as in the world; and may you find friends and what ever you need from the Lord here. I do have a question for you; do you like music--Praise & Worship music? Well we have a new forum here at CF just for P&W music and at the top is a directory of other Christian music threads around CF; come and take a look!

Hi; good to see you; God bless His Word to you. John's First Epistle is strong on principles of fellowship, both Godward and toward other believers.

From one Gen. X'er to another, Welcome to CF, Jeff! And in respect to your first post, I understand the 'need' to touch base with others like yourself. The only problem is that we now live in a world that is almost thoroughly Post-modern in its social outlook and politics and is highly relational (which is a good thing) but socially connected at the expense of deeper thought and analysis (which is a bad thing).

I hope you find a church you feel comfortable with, but also realize that you can bring in and offer some friendly but gentle 'nudges' to your local church community, perhaps helping a 'Millenialized' body of believers think a little more in depth about their faith.

Anyway, welcome!

Peace,

It may take a while to find a church where God speaks to you, don't stress over it. Once you find "the one" you'll know. My wife and I do not attend a church for this very reason. The mainstream churches around our area have seem to lost focus on the Bible and have become more of a motivational event. Many churches don't even discuss Hell anymore because they don't want to scare members away with any negative news, but Hell is a very important topic to discuss with people. Anyway, keep searching and try out different churches and eventually you you'll hopefully come across one. Maybe try some of the older, more established churches who have a more mature congregation.

Remember, God is with us at all times. Just because you don't belong to a church at the moment doesn't mean you can't have a relationship with God. In time, you'll find your way. Be still my friend and just enjoy life and ask God for His guidance.
