Years ago I was in leadership, teaching and preaching in a small pentecostal holiness church. I am ordained through the church. I had to move and now live in reasonable proximity again but the church is no longer in operation. Spoke with the pastor who wants it operating again but not sure if it will. I could find oppurtunity I believe but my wife is limited in what churches she will attend. I know I could also do full time if not for the material demands that come with marriage. You know the whole the desire of the husband is to please his wife thing. I have been thinking and praying about one option lately. There are times when a rural church closes because of lack of ability to fill the pulpit and the previous members what were left ,from what I heard usually between 5-7 people if someone offered to fill it would come back. I have heard often of small towns where a christian willing to have services would be given the keys of the vacant church and given the go ahead to open it back up. I figured I live on the edge of a metro area and have a church me and my wife enjoy but could definately do a late afternoon service. I figured anywhere not more then a 3 hour drive each way 4 hours max would be fine. I would be doing it as a calling compensation would not be an issue. Is there anyone in ministry currently who could give me some ideas or helpful advice or hints on how to go about pursueing this route? I thought maybe seeing an empty church in a town then asking about it and seeing how long it's been closed and if there are still members around and when I locate them ask if they would open again if there was a willing preacher and if opening the doors would be a possibility. If it would I figured I preach a message and leave it up to them if they wanted to invite me or not.
