  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Seeing with the mind's eye

Curious how when other attractions fade or are denied that the mind's eye begins to see. Fantasy, media and literature paint worlds desired, dreamed of, or feared. Their rich craftings draw the rainbows of our imaginations. Times with others tickle the mind and sports make the pulse race. Talks bring warmth and lead the heart along. The times of reminiscence, or longing, or seeking. And so often we miss the heart of it all, how God weaves it all together and is its source and meaning. Where are our prayers from our deepest hearts? We can find ourselves wrapped in the cotton layers of living... and find ourselves distracted and going blind.

When all the things and experiences have run their course or are held back or we finally find ourself set back from it all... then our hearts have the opportunity to detach from all the shimmers. The mind's eye opens up, we see, and we turn to God in thanks and love. I thank God for the opportunity, so long it has taken. Having come full circle, the sun begins to shine once more, the cool breeze again becomes pleasant... that quiet place where God walks in fellowship becomes the mountain and fountain of assurance and communion. Standing there the world again takes on lustre and brilliance and it can be shared with it's Creator.

Very true :) I'd also say though that the opposite is true.... that when something big in your life finally falls into place by His hand, you also feel His love and presence more than usual.

i've said that people usually fall in one of two groups as far as this goes: the group that best knows God through strife (needs to see more of His justice/feared side), and the group that best knows God through prosperity (needs to see more of His mercy). :)

I feel led along every now and then. I keep telling myself not to worry about a relationship right now; that it's not the right time. But as soon as a (supposed) potential opportunity comes up my mind follows it, only to be let down soon afterward.

Right now I haven't really been able to see what it's for, though. Perhaps I am going blind.

Neither, 'cause both have the same challenge :) For both groups, it's ultimately about a balance. God is perfect justice AND perfect grace. Can't know one aspect of Him fully without knowing the other.

yah i've been there

guys seem to be repelled by me, at least at the potential of something serious...they couldn't possibly settle down with someone like me, God wouldn't punish them like that, but they are ever quick to point out that God will surely bring the right guy into my life...the one who is out of his mind (that's what they forget to say).
