Hi, I guess a thread like this comes up every now and then, but music changes, so I need new inspiration:

I am involved in a project which involves non-Christian kids and among other things we have a band. Now these kids are not coming to hear us play "Open the eyes of my heart" - we want to communicate the Gospel to them by playing songs they are familiar with but they have never listened to the lyrics properly, or thought about the issues raised. So this means secular stuff.

So please, any suggestions for songs that are fairly current, that could be played by a relatively modest 5-man band and that have a message which can be related to the Gospel?

I will start you with some suggestions:

Somewhere I Belong, Linkin' Park (about finding meaning in life)
Bring Me to Life, Evanescence (about needing new life!)
Nickelback, If Everyone Cared (bit vague, but about the need for love in the world)
POD, Alive (yeah, I know they are supposed to be Christians, but, whatever...)

Any other ideas?

Please, for the love of God, don't cover Nickleback. It's bad enough that they wrote their songs in the first place.
Um, I'm not sure, Killswitch Engage, pretty positive songs from them and they music isn't all too bad.
HA!
Nice one!

But some songs you could play could be;

'Famous Last Words' - My Chemical Romance [not being afraid to be yourself, to face what's coming, to keep on living...]

'Running Away' - Midnight Hour [keeping on, knowing something better is coming]

'True Love' - Madina Lake [uhhh... self explanatory?]

'So Simple' - Saosin [making the choice to be yourself, and not being afraid of the retributions of individuality]

Just some suggestions, dunno if you'll read the songs the same way, but each unto 'is own, no?

This may or not be playable... but I'd recommend "Never Too Late" by Three Days Grace. It's one of few Three Days Grace songs that actually has a positive message (I don't entirely mean that in a bad way). It's basically about feeling like you can't go on anymore, but it's never too late to turn things around...

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Hmm, I am not saying I particularly listen to some of this stuff but we want to reach the kids, so I'll play Nickelback if I have to!

Some of the stuff I haven't heard of though, so I will definitely check it out!

Thanks!
I can't see anything wrong with Nickelback. I love their music.

I think that "If Everyone Cared" is a great song for you to do.

Any creed songs, of course.

I know that some of these are old... but...

What if Jesus Came Back Like that- Collin Raye

Grace of God - Keith Urban (I believe)

That's all I can think of...
