Ok, that title was just to get your attention so you'd look at my thread. Secular music isn't evil, of course. Not sure about your momma, though ;)

Anyway, to the actual subject of this thread. We've had a lot of threads about full songs that were meaningful to us, but have you ever had a single line from a song that was really meaningful, even if the song as a whole didn't have much meaning for you? I'll give the first one that came to my head.....

How bout more than a few lines?

"oh man, i can't believe that you did what they said.
you did and to this day i've still gotta say that in
my mind i question it. i wish, i knew, what you had
meant before you went and left me wondering to
just an echo of your voice 'listen...'"
CellDweller - The Last Firstborn

"There's no time for us
There's no place for us
What is this thing that builds our dreams yet slips away from us"
Queen - Who Wants To Live Forever

"Can I be somebody else for all the times that I hate myself?"
Skillet - Imperfection

"Oh, life it seems a struggle between What we think what we see, I'm not going to change my ways, Just to please you or appease you." dmb (seek up)
I really like this line. It seems a bit harsh, but i always makes me think of going with whats right though others tell you what to do, you know?

ok, one more, once again im gonna break the rules... it is more than one line, but it is so stinkin cool that I just had to include it...

"You can choose a ready guide In some celestial voice. If you choose not to decide,
You still have made a choice. You can choose from phantom fears And kindness that can kill. I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose free will." Rush (freewill)

I just love that.

Interesting line, He likes the dreams where he dies, sounds very depressing. They are my worst dreams, even when i want to die.

This lyric means a lot to me by U2~Last Night On Earth

"The more you take, the less you feel
The more you know the less you believe"

My friend says that combat boot **** at school.

I got OSS for two days for beating the **** out of him.

He got three for starting it.

Don't remind of him. It wouldn't be wise.

:)

I like that song, too. It's on the Donnie Darko soundtrack. I wish The Church's "Under the milky way" song was there too.

If you ask me, Last Night On Earth as a whole entity is life. My favourite part is;

"The world turns and we get dizzy/We're just slipping away ..."

Alright, let me throw some lyrics out there.

"And I have no compass/And I have no map/And I have no reasons/No reasons to get back
And I have no religion/And I don't know what's what/And I don't know the limit/The limit of what we've got" - U2, Zooropa

"Jesus never let me down/You know, Jesus used to show me the score/Then they put Jesus in show business/Now it's hard to get in the door" - U2, If God Will Send His Angels

The whole last verse of U2's Acrobat, particularly the "And if you dream/Then dream out loud" and "Don't let the bast**ds grind you down" parts.

Dinner's on, so I'm off.

Some great Phish one-liners:

"The passion that sparked me one terrible night, it shocked and persuaded my soul to ignite." -Rift

"Was it for this my life I sought? Maybe so and maybe not?
-Stash

"If we could see the many waves that float through clouds and sunken caves, she'd sense at least the words that sought her, on the wind and underwater."
-Waves (I think the whole song is about trying to describe these invisible waves, which I believe exist, and I believe that this is somewhat like how prayer works.)

"When we're alone we all seem to tend, if we find a marble in dust, to wish someone left it for us."
-Pebbles & Marbles

I heard that song at the end of Donnie Darko and loved it. And what's odd is that the only full dreams I really remember are the ones where I die or where I'm already dead. :o

Yes, this happens to me a lot.. just one line getting stuck with me.

Two recent hardcore bands have left lines in my head that keeps me listening to their songs.

"..Just between me and you I felt the rapture in your arms."
(Artist: The Bled - Album: Pass the Flask - Track: Nothing we say leaves this room)

This other song is apart of a long narrative that he still sings, but the song itself is simply moving.
"...It sounds strange, but Erin couldn't have lived out her dreams on Earth,
so now I must make it a point,
so now it's my job to live them out for her and let the world know what a wonderful person it will never get to meet."
(Artist: Glasscasket - Album: We are Gathered Here Today - Track: A Gray A.M. You Will Never Get to See)

Hm. This seems to have deviated from "one line," so I'll just go along. :D

"I'm looking down, now that's it's over, reflecting on all of my mistakes. / It seems I've found the road to somewhere... somewhere in His grace. / I cried out, 'Heaven, save me!', but I'm down to one last breath, / And with it let me say... let me say..." (Creed, Weathered, "One Last Breath")

"And when your fears subside... and shadows still remain. / I know that you can love me, when there's no one left to blame... / So never mind the darkness, we still can find a way. / 'Cause nothin' lasts forever, even cold November rain." (Guns N' Roses, Use Your Illusion 1, "November Rain")

"Can you heal what father's done? / And fix this hole in a mother's son? / Can you heal the broken worlds within? Can you... strip away, so we may start again?" (Metallica, Re-Load, "Fixxxer")

"There is deep prejudice in me. / Outshines all reason inside. / Given dreams all ridden with pain. / And projected out to the lost." (Opeth, Damnation, "Windowpane")

I could keep going. ^_^ ^_^ ^_^

Well, I have delayed posting in this thread because there are so many lines that I enjoy.

Here are a few:
"And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass of what was everything"
-Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jam, "Black"

"Hands are bruised from breaking rocks all day"
-Jerry Cantrell, Alice in Chains, "No Excuses"

"I don't mind stealing bread from the mouths of decadence"
-Chris Cornell, Temple of the Dog, "Hunger Strike"

I was going to say the same thing, Donnie Darko. Trippy film, I loved it though and that song.

Yeah, me too. Donnie Darko was wonderful. Here's another of my favorite lines....

"I am a lost soul/I shoot myself with rock n' roll/The whole I dig is bottomless and nothing else can set me free....."

Guided By Voices- "I Am a Scientist"

Haha, an excellent Sabbath plug. Have you heard the inspiration for the song? A group of skinheads passed BS on the street one day and beat them up because of their unorthodox dress. Tony Iommi's hand was hurt to the point that he couldn't play guitar for their next show. As revenge, Sabbath wrote the song "Fairies Wear Boots", challenging the masculinity of the thugs.
