  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I thought I'd start a thread for all of you who will be attending a secular college or who are already.

I'm going to be attending a secular college myself in the fall of 2005. I'm majoring in print journalism, but I'm going in as an undeclared major because my SAT score was so low. If I get a "C" average or better in the first semester of my freshmen year, I can transfer majors. I can do that. :)

Dispite it being secular, I love the college. I can't wait to go. I have many plans for it already as far as clubs and sports as well.

What about all of you?

I'm planning on going to a secular college in a few years, I planning on getting a degree in modern languages, and the school I want to go to is one of the best in Canada for linguistics and language, so I've already fallen in love with it from that angle, they just offer so many language courses, I don't know if I could restrain myself from learning them all! and yes, I am a geek :p

the one thing that worries me about the college is I already know from a guy I met online here that that college is pretty bad for drinking and partying and that whole lifestyle, and I really don't want to get sucked into that at all, but I guess thats just something I'll have to pray about.

I'm arrending a secular graduate school (well, in fact in France i wouldn't have the choice, if it's not secular it's to do bible studies).
I'm studying electronics so there are only about 15% girls, and they all are quite bad for drinking, partying etc... but i still live with my parents, which is refreshing.

It's quite hard to witness to them, but they aren't so bad, they're cool people after all and i like them. The only thing i'd want is they should be more spiritual, they should seek God, but they just don't care and live as the life is going... carefree... they just want to earn as much money as possible to have fun then.

But the fact is : Jesus came to call lost sheep, to heal the sick, not the healthy.

So the other threads are long, and I didn't see any where anyone just stated secular Universities.

I attend the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, and am interested to know if anyone else around these parts attends here, and where everyone attends in general.

I'm involved in some bible study groups here, so I'd love to talk to others if some of you are in the area or the southeastern college region.

I'm attending the University of Florida right now....I'm a 2nd year Aerospace Engineering major...I am part of a campus church called 'GCL' aka 'Gator Christian Life'...I get plenty of fellowship with them. Gainesville is a party town and our school is a somewhat party school...witnessing can be hard and many people are quick to argue with anyone who openly preach the gospel...*shrug*...but they cant escape the Lord's Word. I enjoy UF and the people are, overall, great. The christian community here is great for fellowship as well so that makes it great....God has me here for a reason...and I plan on stickin' with it!

John 15:19
If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

Ephesians 5:8,13
8For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light. 13But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

->People will see how we live. We walk in the light, we are of the day, that is we live during the day... and sleep during the night, when others are partying...

Matthew 10:16
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Matthew 28:19-20
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

I'm going to Eastern Kentucky University, supposedly the biggest party school in Kentucky, but I haven't had too many problems. I didn't go to a larger school like University of Kentucky or University of Louisville because I was offered pretty good scholarships at Eastern, and I also went there because so far I want to major in Forensic Science (I'm not sure if I'll stick with it, though).

I got a BA in History from a secular college, so just to tell all who are starting their college carriers; "secular" means nothing bad.

I am starting my MA in History and Education come later this month back at SUNY Geneseo. I'll later transfer to either of four other colleges (two other SUNYs, but possibly also two religious institutions affiliated with the Episcopal Church).

I'm willing to give any college newbie advice and recommendations if they ask too; simply post, PM, or IM me.

I attend a secular college and am planning on attending a secular university.

I really haven't had any problems at the college thus far, though I just started studying Astronomy, which is obviously being taught from a secular viewpoint (i.e.: The "Big Bang" theory). But, I have to admit, that I'm not entirely convinced the world didn't start out in a "big bang", whose to say that, that wasn't the way God chose to start the universe (those particles had to come from somewhere didn't they). Not to mention that the more I learn about just how vast and complex our universe is, the more I'm convinced that there is a divine creator behind it all.

As far as the other students go, I haven't had much interaction with them (there aren't many clubs, no bars, and no one lives on campus etc.), but have had good experiences with the people I have met. Actually one of my pastor's sons went to the same college, so I doubt I'm the only Christian on campus (which would be pompous to assume anyway). Once I do get to uni, I'm anticipating to be faced with more temptations (with drunkenness, sex etc), but as with anything, I'll have the choice to indulge or not :holy:

i had planned on going to a Christian college, but then almost fainted when i found out how much debt i would be in getting out of that college.

I know money shouldnt be what factors into college, but for me, it is, because i DONT want to pay for the rest of my life...on SCHOOL...

i LOVE college though, and i even like just going to the state college...its not as bad as everyone makes it. I guess you only get what you take from schools...ANY SCHOOL...secular or christian.

No problem...I haven't been around for a while...had some stuff come up....but I'm still in G'ville taking classes and praying the Lord uses me to reach this campus....I've been out sharing on campus a couple of times as of late and tabling for preview...exposing the incoming freshmen to Christ and GCL...

let me know if you want to go sharing on campus sometime.
