Secret Sisters

Recently one of my ladies suggested that we choose Secret Sisters for this year. I immediately though it was a great idea.

Being the internet resourcer I am, I jump on the Internet to look for ideas and guidelines for coordinating a Secret Sister program. I quickly came across information about how the Secret Sister program has caused such conflict and hurt feelings in churches.

I really felt that the Lord was leading me not to start this in our Women's Ministries.

I instead have given the ladies the opportunity to encourage anonymously the widow of a deceased minister of our denomination in our state. The will do it completely anonymously. The widow is not in any way to feel obligated to reciprocate. In fact, my ladies have been instructed that they are not to include their return address at any time until the "reveal" at the end of the year.

The response I've gotten from this has been great. I'm so pleased that several ladies desired to just give with an unselfish heart expecting nothing in return.

BarbaraJean, I have read some horror stories about SS programs as well. I know that there were some problems in the past when our church did do SS within the ladies.
I think your idea of anonymously blessing a widow is wonderful! What a great idea! I would really like to use the idea sometime, too.

I think it's a program that you could start now. I wasn't supplied with these ladies birthdays so it's not like we've missed any. We are, in fact, just getting started. The program will run March - December. My ladies will reveal their identity at Christmas.
