I was wondering what does the Bible say about a seared conscience?

I'm worrying because I used to have a seared conscience like most of the people who have not heard about the Word, but I then became aware of sin, by the Grace of God I saw myself in another light and could feel unease when sinning. Like this uncomfortable feeling that the heart ackes and we need to repent.. Unfortunately I didn't listened to my conscience and now it has become seared it is as though I do not know what it right and wrong anymore before God, this scares me because without conscience, the Holy Spirit and conviction I cannot genuinely repent of my sin and follow Jesus.

I realise that I am the only one who is blâmable for this and I should have listened when I felt doing something wrong. Does the Bible say something about gaining your conscience back?

Thank you

Sounds like you have it back.

Romans 5
"20The Law was given so that the trespass would increase; but where sin increased, grace increased all the more."

"Go and sin no more."

But, when you do:

1 John 1
"8If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

The only hope that you have is the precious blood of Christ. It alone can cleanse the conscience. The fact that you are still troubled by this is a good sign. Throw yourself on God's mercy and grace. Tell Him that you know that you were wrong to ignore your conscience.

Remember the parable of the prodigal son? He left home with his inheritance and blew it all on loose living. The father, who represents God, welcomed the son home. It was the elder brother who got offended. The elder brother represents the religious, self righteous people. God wants to restore you. He is not willing that any should perish. Don't give up asking. One thing that helped me when I was in trouble was an appeal to God's glory. Psalm 23 says that God leads us in the path of righteousness for His name's sake.

I'd highly recommend that you kind of reboot your Christian life. I've done this many times. The following link is a detailed description of the real Christian life and how to experience it in reality.

You have to carefully educate your conscience, to form it in proper moral understanding. That is especially true if it was initially malformed. Your conscience will heal, albeit slowly. Feed it well and pray. It's burned but not dead.

The reason it 'scares' you is evidence that your conscience isn't past softening again.

God is not going to give up on you as long as you are sincere about relationship with Him. Remember how Paul recounts his inability to do what is right, in Romans 7. The answer he finds is not within himself, in terms of ability or performance, it is in the unmerited grace of God (Romans 8).

1Jn 3 tells us that when our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things. That implies that we do NOT know all things, even concerning the issues of the heart.

As Rm 8 says, having already given His Son, how could God withhold anything else from us? He wants us Saved, He wants us sanctified. You found a point of weakness within yourself. Join the crowd. We're all in the same boat, one way or another. God is on your side, as long as your heart's desire is to please Him.

Find your point of submission and obedience and continue to walk in it, and don't allow place for condemnation. We are not justified by works. "It is good for the heart to be established by grace" - Heb 13.
