  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm gonna take up under-water basket weaving!

haha I found out how you actually do that...I've never done it of course. It's really not a very portable hobby though!

Crocheting is definitely easy to take with you. All you need is your hook and yarn and possibly directions. Plus you can take it on the plane since you won't need scissors unless you're switching colors. They don't even allow nail clippers or scissors on planes so I doubt they'd allow a small pair of scissors for crafts.
I was trying to think of other portable crafts besides crocheting, knitting, or needle crafts and I really couldn't. I"m sure there's something else out there!

Actually when I flew internationally through Northwest/KLM I asked about knitting needles was told it was okay. As for scissors for the needlepoint I took, I bought just cheep plastic childrens scissors that barely have enough metal to cut and are are blunt ended plastic. I had absolutely no issues with them at all flying with them on the plane. I used them in plain view of any and all flight attendants and no one questions or quirked. This was in February of this year, so unless rules changed again, they are letting some things through more than they did there for a while.

Ah..kids scissors. That's a good idea! I had a friend who had toe nail clippers broken. I'm not quite sure how you could even use those as a weapon but oh well. Knitting needles I figured would be fine too...it was just the scissors.
I guess it depends sometimes on the airport or even the security people you get.
Yeah just don't try taking anything remotely sharp into a court house...they're even worse.

I enjoy knitting, reading and origami. Someone else mentioned Origami. I made a long string of origami cranes in the beautiful paper and strung them together with embroidery floss, put a pretty bead on the end and voila! A colorful, hanging. I've gottem many comments from friends, so they are now making one as well.

Hi! I am a tatter. I suffer from severe migraines but tatting is not a trigger so I can tat with no problems. I mainly use Size 10 thread - sometimes 20 or 30. Any smaller and I snap it because I am a tight tatter. Tatting is very portable, I carry mine just about everywhere I go. I have a little bag I keep in my purse with my tatting supplies. I can pull it out when I have to wait at doctor's offices or riding on long trips.

This is my first chat room msg. I am looking for other sea shell collectors, around the world, to trade shells. Can you help direct me how to go about this?
John

Hi, I collect shells. I'll have to ask my little sister to give me some pictures of them so we can potentially trade.

We went to Myrtle Beach more than once and there was a huge amount of different shells on sale; it's very interesting.
