SDA Question

I came here to learn more about SDA which I have been wondering about for a while. But all I keep hearing in a neverending debate about the Sabbath. Could we stay on topic pretty please? Thanks.

Well, The SDA Sabbath message is the primary reason for the existence of the SDA church, They call it the third angels message,

They believe that Sunday is the future Mark of the Beast, They are the chosen peolple of God that have been called to lead us all out of our churchs and into their church so we can celebrate the Sabbath truth,

All Protestant Sunday keeping church's are apostate church's. But the SDA's believe that there are still true Christians in the apostate church's and their mission from God is to make them aware of the Sabbath message,

If you are a Christian and have never heard the SDA Sabbath message then you are safe in your faith, BUT, And a big but it is, If you hear their Sabbath message and reject it you are now an enemy of God and have lost your salvation,

They believe that we the apostate protestant church are the false prophet of the anti Christ spoken of in Rev, 13

Re 13:12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

Re 13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

Re 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

The anti Christ of course is the Catholic church, SDA's believe that we the aposatate Protestant church will join forces with Rome and make war on all Sabbath keepers and hunt them down and kill them because they will not accept the mark of the beast which is Sunday worship,

That is pretty much it in a nutshell, To learn more about SDA's you may want to start another thread asking about SDA beliefs, But with in a few posts most likly somebody is going to turn it into another Sabbath thread,

Thanks! I have heard a little about soul sleep. Can you fill in some on this? I think my boss who is SDA mentioned it once. I didn't ask her too much about it cuz...she's my boss!

Jesus has promised to be all of that, and more, for each of us. We can trust His promises because He is God. When the words of Colossians say "in Him all things hold together" (1:17, NIV) that includes everything in our lives. He keeps us whole when the enemy is trying to make us fall apart.

Seventh-day Adventists believe that Jesus is one of the three persons, called the Trinity, who make up our one God. The Bible describes Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit as each being committed to our growth as Christians and to our salvation as their children. They made this salvation possible when Jesus came to Bethlehem as a human baby. He lived a life perfectly in accord with God's will and then died innocently for all of our sins. He was placed in a borrowed tomb, but He came back to life three days later. Now he is in heaven interceding with the Father for us, preparing for our deliverance from sin and death.

When everything may be falling apart, when you feel totally alone in the universe, Jesus is right there in the center of it all, offering personal peace and hope. Allow Him into your life. He immediately begins "remodeling" who you are and how you live. Jesus, in fact, is busily transforming His followers into accurate representatives of God's character.

Look to Jesus, and you'll be looking into the understanding and loving face of God.

God's vision for you is life as He lives it! God loves you, and wants to give you the highest quality of life imaginable.

No, not a second-rate existence somewhere on earth, but the highest quality of life imaginable, here and in eternity with Him! That's what God wants us to have. The best!

This is why He provides church families where we can belong. This is why He gives each of us special gifts and talents, so we can live life fully. Amazingly, this is why He's concerned about what you're doing, when you're doing it, and how you relate to Him. God doesn't want anything to get in the way of our friendship. He especially doesn't want us to get involved in anything damaging or hurtful. He's like a loving father or a good big brother. He's someone who loves you so much that He's always looking out for you.

When God designed you, He included special talents and skills that will help you become a uniquely valuable individual. These may be your ability to teach, your love for others, or your leadership skills. Still, whatever special gifts you have received, God has also provided all of the energy and wisdom necessary for you to use them well.

By the way, how God feels about death is part of the quality life He offers. For followers of Christ, death holds no fear. Remember, Jesus defeated death on Calvary and has given us freedom from death. Cemeteries, then, are filled with followers of God who are in the "peaceful pause before the resurrection." Yes, they are dead, but that death holds no power over their future. Jesus is coming to take them (and those of us who are still living) HOME! Death is almost like a wintery promise of spring.

The Seventh-day Adventist faith in today and in the future comes from seeing this life "overflowing" with hope!

Because love is the key aspect of His character, God is also deeply into gratitude. Before we even finish saying thank you, He's already busy sending more blessings.

In the heart of God is a place you can experience as home. God loves you, and wants to spend time with you personally, one on one, as two close friends.

Because you and God are friends, you will spend time together as friends do. Each morning you'll share a hello and a hug and discuss how you can face the day's events together. Throughout the day you'll talk with Him about how you feel. You'll laugh with Him at funny things and ache with Him over sadness and hurts. It's pleasant being God's friend, able to snuggle comfortably into the safety of your relationship. You can always trust Him to treat you well, because He loves you.

The seventh day (Saturday) is an extra-special part of the relationship. The Bible, from Genesis through Revelation, describes the seventh day as the one day God has set aside for focused fellowship with His people. God has named that day "Sabbath" and asked us to spend it with Him. "Remember the sabbath day," He says, "to keep it holy." The Sabbath is a whole day to deepen our friendship with the Creator of the universe! A day when we're together, Jesus with us and us with Jesus.

There's another great truth about friendship with God. It doesn't end in a cemetery, for God is planning a homecoming better than anything we can dream. A homecoming filled with angels, trumpets, Jesus, and resurrections! He's promised to being His followers, those who have accepted the offer of His life-changing love, from this earth to His home, a place He calls heaven. A place where our friendship can go on growing forever, endlessly, joyfully!

• God keeps a family albumâ€"and your picture is in it. God loves you and has a plan for your life.

God's love is about you. Personally.

God made you and has a very special plan for your life. It's a plan that will fill you with hope, love, peace, and activity. In fact, when Christ paid the penalty for sin on the cross, that gave Him the right to claim you as His own. As a result, you can experience His love and priceless salvation freely and fully without limit.

By the way, pictures of everyone fill that album: Nepalese, Brazilians, Nigerians, Yupiks, Germans, people of every nation, culture, background, gender, hair color, and foot size. In God's eyes all are equally "children of the King"!

Salvation? God cleans away all our sins and replaces them with His goodness. We don't have to be "good" for Him to accept us. Nevertheless, we must accept His promise and allow Him to clean out everything the enemy has left in us. Then we begin to experience the transforming power of His love. It's like a giant war: one side pulling us toward empty pleasure and destruction, and God urging us to accept His offer of peace and purpose.

Remember, Jesus has already won the war. He is victorious! We celebrate His victory in our lives when we participate in the Lord's Supper. This meal includes three symbols:

• Foot washing (which symbolizes our commitment to love others as Jesus loves us),
• bread ("This bread is my flesh," Jesus said, "which I will give for the life of the world," John 6:51, NIV), and
• wine or grape juice ("Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life." John 6:54, NIV)

To help us understand how God can transform us into His children, Jesus modeled the process of baptism for us. Baptism symbolized dying to self and coming alive in Jesus. Seventh-day Adventists practice full immersion baptism because by being fully buried beneath the water we symbolize that God's grace fully fills us with His new life for the future. Through baptism we are truly born again in Jesus.

Eternal life, peace, purpose, forgiveness, transforming grace, hope: Everything He promises is ours, because He's offering it and He's shown we can trust Him to do exactly as He promises. Accept His gifts, and you immediately become an active part of His family, and He joyfully becomes part of yours."

If you look at the links I have provided you will find that the focus is on Jesus Christ as our Saviour first and foremost.

Just as an example, look at the book of Revelation. What is that book about?

Some will focus on the mark of the beast and the anti-christ. If you read it you would certainly find much in Revelation about the mark of the beast and the anti-christ.

But the primary focus is not on that at all.

Revelation 1:1-3



"1The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:



2Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

3Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand."

What do we find right here at the start? It is all about Jesus Christ and each page is a new revelation about His work and soon coming. It tells us that we must not only read this book but must obey the words written in it and if that is done those doing it will be "Blessed".

To me that is good news. Seventh-day Adventists do focus on the books of Daniel and Revelation because of this encouragement and challenge right at the start of the book.

Can You Say Clear Word??? Can You say Spirit of Prophecy???

The Catholics have not even come close to rewriting the scriptures as you SDA have, With the Clear Word your denomination started at Rev1:1 and all the way to Rev 22:21 completely rewrote the Scripture to fit your doctrines,

In The Beginning you SDA's even tried to call it a bible but the so many people were against it the eventually the word bible was dropped from the title,

Now for my personal reactions and you are free to quote me if you wish. Understand that this is my personal opinion and does not represent any official stance of the SDA Church.



​

Dr. Jack Blanco, chair of the religion department at Southern College and the author of the Clear Word Bible is trying to make the Bible clearer which is most commendable. He has done an outstanding job except for the problems I cite below.



​

He makes it clear in the first paragraph of his Preface that "This is not a new translation but a paraphrase of the Scriptures. It is not intended for in-depth study or for public reading in churches." Unfortunately most people do not read prefaces so this very important information will be lost. Already I am hearing reports of it being used in the pulpit and as a textbook in teaching religion.

Second the author misunderstands the meaning of the word "paraphrase." A paraphrase is not a loose rendering of someone elses' words with added commentary. A paraphrase whether you use the dictionary definition or the definition used in active listening simply means restating the words of another in your own words without adding to or subtracting from the original meaning.



​

A cursory examination of the Clear Word Bible reveals the prolific addition of many ideas not found in Scripture.



​

Thirdly, where Scripture is ambiguous the author removes the ambiguities. One is left not having to make hardly any interpretations for him or herself. The author has done it for you. God evidently intended that each reader struggle with the text and decide personally how to resolve these ambiguities and tensions. Two quick examples come to mind. In 1 Cor. 15:29 we find the difficult phrase baptized for the dead. The author resolves the difficulty by telling us that being baptized in the hope of seeing dead loved ones is meaningless if you do not believe in the resurrection. Revelation 1:10 no longer has us puzzling over which day of the week the Lord's day is. The author tells us that it is the Sabbath.

Fourthly, the author has intertwined so much of Ellen White into his commentary that the general effect has been to canonize Ellen White. The author adds to Scripture in Genesis 2:25 by following Ellen White and saying that Adam and Eve were clothed with a garment of light. Daniel 8:14 is now clear that the judgment began after 2300 prophetic years.

Fifthly, the title chosen for this work is most unfortunate. This is not a Bible. It is a personal commentary on Scripture but it is not the Bible. Yet the title clearly identifies it as a Bible. It is really a specialized commentary on the Bible.



​

Sixthly, while the author says it is a paraphrase the format inside is not that of a paraphrase but that of the King James Bible. While most modern versions format by paragraph this "Bible" is formatted verse by verse so that it clearly looks like a traditional bible.



​

Seventh, I fear what our critics will say when they find how much Ellen White has contributed to this "bible" without any credit being given to her at all. It would be interesting to find out what percentage of this work owes itself to Ellen White.



​

In summary. While I believe that the intentions of the author were honorable and while I am sure he has been greatly blessed I fear that this commentary will eventually confuse people more than it will help people. Already one person has brought it to my Sabbath School class and read from it. _People_will_begin_memorizing_it_and_quoting_it_as_Scripture. I know that this was not the intent of the author but that is what the practical effects will be.

I am sure that the author does not believe that the words of Revelation 22:18 "I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book." apply to this version. But since it is called a Bible some might draw the opposite conclusions. He should have made it far clearer on the conver and in the formatting that this is not another Bible but a personal commentary on Scripture. I hope that the author would withdraw or at the very least drastically revise this book.

If you do not like it then go back to the KJV or another translation.

Interesting you should ask that !!! I actually do have a copy of the Clear Word,

I bought it at the SDA ABC bookstore in Loma Linda, When I bought it I opened it to see who the publisher was, No publisher was shown anywhere on the fly pages,

I found that rather strange so I asked the sales lady who publishes the book??? She did the same thing that I did looking on the fly pages and could not find it either, She to thought that was strange so she typed it into her computer to see who they order the book from to keep ot stocked,

The Publisher is none other than the SDA publishing house the Review and Hearld,

It appears your church wants to open the world to the wonders of Ellen White with out anyone knowing that it is an SDA publication.

Apparently completely re-editing the word of God and selling it to an unsuspecting public is a small thing to the people who walk in Gods truth eh?

No, But you SDA's are always charging others with changing times and laws and your church has taken it upon it self to change the entire bible,

If I belonged to a church that actually rewrote the entire bible for what ever purposes I would not be to quick to advertise it to the whole world either,

But you really should stop charging others for something you have done on a much grander scale than others,

Let's get to the truth of this.

No one has changed the Bible from the SDA Church. It says in the book that it is a paraphrase.

No one has rewrote the Bible.

The KJV and the NKJ along with all the other translations are still there.

There are even other paraphrases out there on the market as well.

This verses from the bible teach people to believe Jesus was truly God in the flesh. The Spirit of Prophecy states that "The man Jesus was not the Lord God almighty"
This is because for 50 years Ellen G White held the Arian Belief that Jesus was a created arch angel named Michael,

. This verse does more than say he is like God ,In Ex 3:14, I AM is the name God gave to Moses as his own name. This means that Jesus was telling the Pharisee's that he is the one who commanded Moses to go to Pharaoh. Or in other words, that he is actually God himself. The SDA's do not seem to care for this verse because it is contrary to the Spirit of Prophecy teachings of Ellen G White, So they changed it,

Ellen G White has indicated in her writings that the Pharisee's and every body else were aware that Joseph was not the father of Christ..

Apparently Ellen White forgot that that the Mosaic law forbid a fatherless child to stand in the congregation of Israel,

De 23:2 A ******* shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

Jesus was referred to as Rabbi and Teacher even by the Pharisee's themselves, They never would have reffered to him as such if they thought he was a child born of fornication or Adultery, The bible shows that they thought that Joseph was the father of Jesus,

Mt 13:55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?

Mt 13:56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?


Joh 6:42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?


Basically the SDA's have had to rewrite the entire discourse of Christ with the Pharisee's in Jn 8 to properly represent the teachings in the Spirit of Prophecy.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God and the dead in Christ shall rise first.

When Christ descends from heaven as the Archangel he will give a shout of command-the trumpet call of God to the dead-and the dead in Christ will rise first.

Yet Michael the archangel when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, the Lord rebuke thee.

In contrast to these ungodly men is the Lord Jesus, also called Michael the archangel for he was challenged by Satan about his intentions to resurrect Moses, He didn't come at Satan with a blistering attack, nor did he belittle him, He simply said, God rejects your claim to his body.

The Spirit of Prophecy teaches that Christ is the also the Archangel Michael. But the Scripture does not support that Jesus is a created Angel, It states that he is God himself.

The SDA's have modified the Pastoral letters of Paul to support their Ellen White health message,

No more than two or three should speak and only one at a time. then let the congregation decide whether what they said is according to the Scriptures.

Paul gave instructions on testing the prophets to the NT church, Paul's instructions are we need at least two prophets so the other can confirm the message of the prophet that is speaking, The SDA's have a little problem here because they only have one prophetess. In verse 32 Paul states the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets, . Basically The SDA's have solved the problem by eliminating the teaching of Paul and replacing it with something more reflective of their present needs Where Paul required a" minimum "of two they have replaced that with" no more than two or three "leaving them with in the frame work of the new teaching by only having one. They have restructured verse 32 so now instead of needing another prophet to verify the first prophet, any one in the congregation can verify prophecy.

I was in the Spirit on the Lords day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet.

The actual meaning of the Lords Day using the bible alone is actually unclear because there is no other usage of the term as John uses it in Revelation, But using church history though there can be no doubt that the Lords day is Sunday for the usage of the Lords day goes all the way back to the Apostles,, Of course the SDA's do not use church history, They use Ellen G White, Ellen G White says the Lords Day is the Sabbath so in the SDA bible that is not really a bible the unknown is removed and shows that all Christians were keeping the Sabbath in the 90's ad

And I saw no temple therein :for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the Temple of it.

I didn't see any temple in the New Jerusalem . actually, there was no need of one, since God and the Lamb were personally there. The Temple I had expected to see was now located outside the City as a memorial of what God had done for his people.

The additions in this verse is to help the SDA's promote their sanctuary doctrine, This is far far far from all the changes made in the SDA Clear Word, There are many serious alterations in the Clear Word that would take Months if even not years to find them all,

Ascan be seen this is not a paraphrase of the bible in any way shape or form, It is an intentional planned distortion to promote the views of the SDA church as thier prophetess has taught them through her Spirit of Prophecy writings,

How is it intended for devotional insights when it actually contradicts actual scripture? Are we to be led to believe that is allright to use contradictory text when devoting out time to studying scripture? This makes no sense at all to be quite frank. Please explain how using a so called paraphrase that changes the actual meaning of scripture is good for anything at all, especially for devotion.

Not to mention that it is written in such away to promote using it for reading rather than the bible itself, Your bible can just sit on the shelf and gather dust becuase now you have this neat new study tool that clarifies all those hard to understand things you have trouble with in Gods word,

This book was designed to replace the bible not to be used with the bible, The original Clear Word Bible title shows that the original intents and purpose of this book was to be a bible it self,

It was only the negative reception it received from even within their own church that word Bible was removed from the title,

When even another SDA editor says hey guys wait a minute here like David Neuman did then that is saying something is really is wrong here,

I wonder if Neuman got tossed out on his ear for standing up like so many other SDA pastors and ministry officials have for supporting the truth??

Not much to tell on this really, They simply believe that when the body dies the soul is asleep with the dead body in the grave, The soul will awaken with the new body at the resurrection, The SDA's did not originate the soul sleep doctrine,

They use several selective verses to promote this doctrine,

Here is a thread where we are discussing hell and soul sleep, Adam holds a slightly different view in that he believes the soul returns to God but does not remember anything, He uses the same verse the SDA;s use though to support his belief
