• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

This is a "Quote" from a portion of a devotional book by Andrew Murray. He is one of the great writers about the deeper issues of life if you wish such good reading get his books.

People like us who S.I. have great difficulty going through emotions that are uncomfortables. This is one of the greatest we commit such acts against ourselves. We want to unload that emotion or feeling NOW! We can't stand it. We are stressed beyond belief and have to destroy the culprits at once.

Therefore, one of the best things for someone who S.I.'s is to learn to sit with feelings even the ones that are not comfortable. We just have to go through them. Let them pass and eventually everything truly will be okay.

Here is what Andrew Murray had to say about waiting,

"We will all have times of waiting, whether we like it or not. Our choice is either to pursue the disposition of quiet waiting or chafe in frustration against the mantle we've been given to wear. And though waiting quietly may go against every tendency in us to fix and control circumstances and people, waiting allows us to step back and watch God do what we cannot. In stark contrast to the maxim 'God helps those who help themselves,' the prophet Isaiah tells us:

SINCE ANCIENT TIMES NO ONE HAS HEARD,
NO EAR HAS PERCEIVED,
NO EYE HAS SEEN ANY GOD BESIDES YOU,
WHO ACTS ON BEHALF OF THOSE WHO WAIT FOR HIM (ISAIAH 64:14).

THIS IS THE GOD WE SERVE, THE GOD WHO ASKS US TO WAIT WHILE HE WORKS. THE WAITING WILL NOT LAST FOREVER, BUT IT IS NOT TO BE AVOIDED OR SHORT-CIRCUITED. THERE IS NOT SOME LEVEL OF SANCTIFICATION THAT, WHEN REACHED, MAKES WAITING UNNECESSARY. LET US NOT DESIRE TO GRADUATE BEYOND WAITING; LET US SEEK TO KNOW GOD IN OUR WAITING. NO EYE HAS SEEN AND NO EAR HAS PERCEIVED ANY GOD LIKE HIM."

This waiting for uncomfortable emotions to pass is also a part of allowing God to do a work of healing inside of us. Those feelings or emotions do not come from no where. They are connected to something and in time God will reveal that to us. He will help us in that revelation to know what to do, how to handle the knowledge, and learn the path to healing from the circumstances that are at the root of the uncomfortable emotions or feelings.

We wait a God whose love is so powerful that we know not the depth of what it is He desires to do for us. I mean it was His Joy to send His Son to suffer for us. Wow!!!! It is also His joy to cause us to have these feeling and emotions now and not at another time. He knows when are ready for them. He wants us not "Help ourselves" through S.I. but to wait on Him to lead and guide us through exactly what each of us needs to heal fom all the pain and hurt inside of our hearts. He can and will if we wait on Him bring us to a place of peace and rest from this endless cycle of S.I.

God is a God of freedom and justice. Remember "The Truth will set you free"? What is truth? "Thy Word is Truth." Who is the Word? None other than Jesus Christ Himself. Whose Word is Jesus? God's Word in Son? See Hebrews 1:2 and John 1:1,2,14
