  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Scientists Baffled Again.

That's what sane people do.

When the real world shows that your theories are wrong you change your theories.

Other people just choose to ignore reality and keep to the same old source material no matter what reality shows.

You guys sound like cosmologists. :)

The point is that mainstream cosmologists don't really know what they are doing, this is why they are often so baffled by new observations that doesn't fit their model.

Hopefully as they continue to modify and modify and modify the model they will eventually find the truth.

Of course. That is the goal of science - to find the truth. That does not mean science will find your opinion is correct however. We don't know what the future holds in terms of what we'll find out, but you do know this does not mean we'll go back to medieval perceptions of a young earth, don't you?! (We won't you know. That perception is thoroughly dead and gone)

God forbid scientists should discover something anomalous and be forced to modify a pre-existing explanation. I mean it's not like that's what scientists do for a living.

hehe. QFT!

This post is so stupid, I really hope that it's a joke, but unfortunately it's probably not. I honestly just can't tell anymore. What's so wrong with making improvements when something new is found? It's amazing how these "mainstream cosmologists," who of course don't know what they're doing, were even able to put people on the moon, rovers on mars, & spacecraft to edge of the solar system, etc. etc. I mean everything they need to know is already in the bible.

You tell 'em, Doveman. You should become famous by telling astronomers & physicists everywhere what they're doing wrong.

Yes, they're so baffled they've been acting like headless chickens I tell you! Modifying Newtonian gravity, that's just crazy talk! The actions of madmen!

@ OP: Armchair "expert" fail (more like backseat driver "expert"). Do some real science instead of sitting on the sidelines attempting to find fault in everything.

I like this quote from the aritcle:
The team of scientists looked at the distribution of these satellite dwarf galaxies and discovered they were not where they should be. “There is something odd about their distribution”, explains Professor Kroupa. “They should be uniformly arranged around the Milky Way, but this is not what we found.”
Wait until they find out it was God Who placed the stars in the sky in a certain order.

That's nice. Does your ad hoc faith fall to pieces if these galaxies you just heard about aren't in the "right" place?

Now find the order, and get some evidence for it

Bye now.

It seems to me you're the one who just found out these galaxies aren't in the 'right' place.

Hows your faith holding up?
Now find the order, and get some evidence for it
No, thanks --- I'm not a uniformitarian who just learned the universal distribution of stars may be catastrophic.

Now get out there and work on raising that old formula for gravity up to the level of No True Scotsman.

Well, it's not faith, so I'm doing just fine

Why should these galaxies need to be in one particular place and how is somehow a trump for religion over science?

No, thanks --- I'm not a uniformitarian who just learned the universal distribution of stars may be catastrophic.

How, exactly? Pretty sure that's not what the article said.

Now get out there and work on raising that old formula for gravity up to the level of No True Scotsman.

I'm seriously getting sick of you putting this one out there.

You have never worked in a science lab. YOU WERE NOT THERE.

Seeing as "were you there?" is a favourite strawman question of yours, drop one or the other, and stop being such a hypocrite.

This is the quote I especially like:

"If the scientists are right then this has far-reaching consequences for our understanding of the Universe we live in."

Hasn't it been understood for a while that our current theory of gravity isn't perfect?
What's the theory of gravity supposed to look like?
