  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Actually if you take the time to watch the video it actually is quite entertaining and informative. I have read Lee Strobels "The Case for Christ" and found it to be an excellent read. I will have to respond to this post in more detail tomorrow. However I would say that I found the argument for a fine tune universe far more compelling then for the arguments advocating intelligent design. I will provide more observations tomorrow. Good night.

I thought the video made an interesting point about the ever greater interest in the possibility of multiple universes. It seems to be the cure all to explain why we live in this universe that is so precisely fine tuned to make our existence even possible. If you can explain this universe as one of infinite universes, then really anything is possible. However, what proof is there that there are multiple universes? How can wild hypothesis now be considered hard science?

Stop the fine tuning arguments - they are logically very very weak.

"hitting literalism where it hurts; with the facts."

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. That's the funniest thing I've read all day.

Literal = "adhering to fact or to the ordinary or usual meaning (as of a word)"

Historical = " a chronological record of significant events often with an explanation of their causes
2 : a branch of knowledge that records and explains past events
3 : events that form the subject matter of history
4 : an established record" (From the Merriam Webster Dictionary)

That is exactly what Genesis is: the historical record of actual events and occurrences as recorded by the Holy Spirit through Moses. Every bit of it was actual and about 99% of it was literal. Both the prophets and the writers of the New Testament said so and I am prepared to quote them extensively to prove that fact.

How do you know this is precise tuning? Is it really that precise?
In America they use to work within 1/100 tolerance. The Germans were 1/1000. Soap use to be 99.99% pure and that really impressed people. Now they are talking about nano technology where they can filter and work within a billioneth. That's 1/1,000,000,000. So even man has come a long way in precision and in his ability for fine tuning.

as recorded by the Holy Spirit through Moses.
They believe that a lot of what Moses "recorded" came from earlier books or clay tablets. For example there is a lot of talk lately about the book of Enoch and how much of that we find recorded in the Bible. Even I read in a Seminary book once about the writting structure of Moses is a lot like you would find on a Clay Tablet even though he used the Egyption method of writting on Papyrus. So they believe that some of what he wrote was copied from clay tablets written by others.

Well, whoever 'they' are........'they' are wrong.

You shouldn't believe everything you are told. You should believe God.

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" II Timothy 3:16

Jesus said that everything Moses said was the truth.

Luke 24:25-27 & Luke 16:29.

Yes whatever you do don't let nasty little things like facts get in the way of your superstitions. LOL

(I do not believe the Christian faith is superstition at all BTW - But YEC's spend a whole lot of energy trying to get us all to embrace and accept superstition as part of our faith)

I've got news for you: Moses was YEC. So was the Lord Jesus Christ.

"For in six days the Lord God made the heavens and the earth and all that in them is..." From the Ten Commandments, Exodus 20:11.

"But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female."
Mark 10:6.

Yeah Moses probably was...since it is pretty much a given that the scientific knowledge of the day was quite limited and like you and I...Moses was a man. In fact I think it is quite likely that Moses was also a geocentrist. But since Jesus was the actual Instrument of creation I am pretty sure He understands how He did it a lot better than you do. Or do you think perhaps Jesus was confused about the sun revolving around the Earth too?

There is another big difference between Moses and the likes of you. He was led by the Holy Spirit to record the account of creation and the timing of it (Genesis 5, the chronologies which agree with the Chronicler and with Luke in his gospel, chapter 3). You weren't.

I believe Moses, not you.

So you believe the sun really does revolve around the Earth as recorded in Joshua? Very revealing. ;)
