  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's only recently that I've come to learn that not every school starts in September. I've always grown up looking at September as "back to school" month.

Pinkguard's first day of Senior Kindergarten is September 4th.

I remember it beginning the Tuesday after Labor DAy :) But now they begin in August (one week earlier I guess) but they also get more time off during the year :)

School started here this past Monday. It used to start next Monday, but the districts moved it up so the high school semesters would work out better with the timing of finals and midterms with vacations.

The district next to us started this past Monday but they also end a week before we do :D

We are excited!

Our public schools here started July 28th. We get out the last of May. Our schools are on a "year round" schedule. We have 2 months off in the summer instead of 3, but we get more time off during the year...2 weeks off in fall, 2 weeks off in winter, 2 weeks off in spring, plus regular school holiday breaks.

We started homeschool the same day, July 28th. We plan to homeschool year round with a 3 week on, 1 week off schedule.

I love it when kiddo's are excited about school. I helped out in registration this year and spoke to quite a few kiddo's. All of them were excited to start again! That's a good thing :D
We're checking every so often online to see class assignment. DS wants to know who his teacher is :p

Like moonkitty, my son started school this past Monday (first day of first grade!), but Tropical Storm Fay hit our county then stalled and dumped almost 30" of rain on us, so the schools were closed the rest of the week. We go back on Monday, so it will be like the first day all over again. lol

It was good. He said he really likes his teacher - apparently they had a sharing time and talked about the things everyone likes and he listed off all of the things that his teacher likes...so at least he's paying attention so far. ^_^

I haven't had a chance to talk with his teacher in depth, but my friend's SIL works at the school and was pleased that my son got her as a teacher, so that makes me feel really good about her. :)

We get really excited about school in our house, too. I think the only thing I don't get excited about is having to label all of the supplies. lol

Our kids go back next week on Tuesday. I think they would like another month or 2 of summer vacation though. We got all the supplies and stuff but it's still sitting here in the shopping bags, no one's filling their backpacks yet.

I will be glad because I can go back to working at Walgreens during the day instead of at night.

So, how was the first week of school? :)

:hug:He is having a blast. He wakes up all ready and set to go :) I'm making new friends so that's fun. A lot of us moms got together for fun evenings last year so I'm hoping that continues again this year! We're all really happy:clap:
DH and I are still discussing lunch time. Students are allowed to purchase their lunch or bring their own. DS takes a lunch with him but requested to load his lunch card with $. The lunch card is like a debit card so we can put any amount on it and it will deduct from the card each time he uses it. The menu's are healthy so I'm not concerned in that aspect. I'm just not sure he can handle buying it himself, adding the condiments and eating it before time runs out (20 minutes to eat). Still working on it...:)

Awesome! :) My son would prefer to buy lunch every day, as well - but I still prefer to pack a lunch even though they offer healthy alternatives (b/c they offer some not so healthy ones, too - which I know he would choose :) ). So, we compromised - one day a week, he gets to buy his lunch. Last year, I had him buy lunch on Wednesdays b/c that is the day his younger brother has pizza at school, so I got a night off from making lunches. This year, I'm allowing him to choose which hot lunch he wants to buy out of the choices for the week.

school starts here on September 4th. I can't wait.
Nick will be going into the 1st grade. We already met his teacher, and she seems nice and very well organized. She has already stocked the students' desks with text books and journals.
Nick will most likely be taking his lunch to school. He's quite the picky eater. I do allow him to buy an ice cream sandwich at school, if he eats all of his lunch. The aides are aware of this. For our school, each child is assigned a "pin" number and it remains the same through graduation. We send in money to load up the account, and they remind us when it gets low.

Stephen will be starting kindegarten this year! I cannot believe it! I'm not sure if he will be able to make it through a whole day!! Kindegarten here is a full day from 9am-3pm. they do get a nap/rest time after snack in the pm. He is so excited that he will be riding on the "big" bus with his brother!! He may want to get lunch at school...he eats most anything.

Jake is going to be 3 next month...so it will be a couple of years for him. I will have to think of things for us to do while the older two are in school.

DH and I decided that the school lunch will be a treat :) So we'll see. I was just looking at the menu. Tomorrow is Beef Terriyaki Dippers or Veggie Stir fry with steamed rice OR a beef rib-a-que sandwich or a chicken caesar salad (whole grain roll, fresh fruit and milk) LOL. I wanna go eat there!

Wow! Kindergarten is all day! It's 1/2 day here so I eased into school:p

We have the pin number for lunches too. It's associated with their debit card that stays at school :) Should be interesting. DS(4) is home with me and he misses his brother but is having fun getting all my attention :D
