  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Where I live, the districts pretty much supply everything for the classroom that students will need, including scientific and graphing calculators. Until the school supply thread, it never occurred to me that many school districts do not.

So, do your schools require the students to purchase their own supplies?

our school supplies text books, that's about it.
we have to buy most everything else. from pencils to calculators to notebooks to baby wipes! we also have to purchase boxes of tissues believe it or not! and art smocks! When I was in kindegarten, the school provided art smocks. I fear it will only get worse.

My children's schools provide very little other than text books. We also had to purchase several things for the classroom, ie; kleenex, hand sanitizer, etc. We had to purchase a pretty expensive graphing calculator for middle school and a different one now that DS is in High School.

Both my kids attend private schools because we live in an educationally challenged state so I thought that maybe that was the reason we had to provide so much stuff. Guess it is getting to be the same for public too.

Private or public in my state you provide workbooks, pens, pencils, scissors, glue, calculators, kleenex, uniforms plus there is a fee for the hiring of textbooks, which the school loans you. Anything extra ~ sport, music, art etc ~ will cost you for materials & uniforms. I now homeschool & although I use a quite expensive curriculum it costs me no~where near as much as sending 1 kid through school ~ & I have 5!!!

some things but not all- all textbooks and workbooks, pencils, erasers, cutting utencils , glue, construction paper, toliet paper, sometimes paper towels (but very cheap scratchy ones), paper, folders, paint, pretty much anything used to write, draw, do projects with).
They do not supply tissues, soap in the classrooms, hand sanitizer, mild cleaning products (baby wipes). My district pretty much supplies all the things used to "learn" and i wish they would cut out some of the things on our supply lists, but then again students really like bringing their own things (special pencils, folders, etc... that they picked out).

Somethings are provided but not everything.

We provided a bit (pencils, crayons, glue sticks, tissue, paper towels, erasers etc). The school provides the art supplies, science lab items, books, paper, project items (DS brought home magic playdoh that they made in class) pencils box, scissors and anything else I forgot :p
