I don't have kids, so I don't know, but I was under the impression that they're mostly being taught about larger categories, like "there are trans people and non-trans people", not all these different gender labels. Well, no, it’s that the Baby-Boomers* have never understood that the time in which they had their upbringing and lives were in a rare 80 years of relative “peace” in the world. They thought all of this was “normal” and their birthright, They are now squabbling with the younger generation about how it’s “not like it used to be, back in our day” just like our parents said to us as we came of age.
