  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Lev 18

21 Then Aaron shall lay both of his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over it all the wrongdoings of the sons of Israel and all their unlawful acts regarding all their sins; and he shall place them on the head of the goat and send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who stands ready. 22 Then the goat shall carry on itself all their wrongdoings to an isolated territory; he shall release the goat in the wilderness.

Hi there,

Anyone else see the parallels between the scapegoat in the Old Covenant and Judas ???

Comments welcome.

No. Judas did not have any of people's sin laid on him, Christ did.

I dont know...Jesus Christ of Nazareth loved Judas. A goat is an animal and escaping was not necessarily sanctioned. Blessings.

John 17:12
While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

What scripture was fulfilled in Judas ??

Jesus the lamb without blemish was slain.

Christ took on the sin of the whole world on the cross

Judas was empowered by darkness, driven out where he took his own life.

He also repented. Judas is not a scapegoat, just a missed up man who looked for a conquering messiah not what Christ was.

There is something of a parallel, but there is an even stronger parallel in the story of Barabbas. Barabbas was released while Jesus was crucified. But look at his name: Jesus Barabbas. Barabbas is actually "Bar Abbas". In Aramaic it literally means "son of father". Jesus "son of father" was released "into the wilderness" while Jesus Son of the Father was crucified.

He was called the Son of Perdition.

In other words unrepentant.
So , that does not mean he represents one of the two goats.

" A key part of Yom Kippur, as described in the Torah, is the ritual slaughter of two goats; one for the Lord, and the other is designated “for Azazel”. Jewish tradition takes “Azazel” as the name of a rocky headland off which one goat, having the sins of the community symbolically placed upon it, would be thrown. The other goat, the one for the Lord, would be slaughtered as part of the general Yom Kippur rituals. This slaughter would bring atonement to the community."
Hypothetically, Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the second goat, He was sacrificed for sin. Judas just set the motion in play.
Blessings

Azazel in Leviticus 16 is also in the book of 1 Enoch as one of the chief antagonist of the fallen angels.

Strong's Concordance
azazel: entire removal
Original Word: עֲזָאזֵל
Part of Speech: Noun Masculine
Transliteration: azazel
Phonetic Spelling: (az-aw-zale')
Definition: entire removal

The similarity like Azazel/Scapegoat the blame and guilt go to Judas for what he did. They both went to where they belong for what they did.

[Lev 16:10 NIV] 10 But the goat chosen by lot as the scapegoat shall be presented alive before the LORD to be used for making atonement by sending it into the wilderness as a scapegoat.
[Lev 16:10 ESV] 10 but the goat on which the lot fell for Azazel shall be presented alive before the LORD to make atonement over it, that it may be sent away into the wilderness to Azazel.

[Act 1:25 NIV] 25 to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs."

[1 Enoch 10] ...And again the Lord said to Raphael: 'Bind Azazel hand and foot, and cast him into the darkness: and make an opening 5 in the desert, which is in Dudael, and cast him therein. And place upon him rough and jagged rocks, and cover him with darkness, and let him abide there for ever, and cover his face that he may 6,7 not see light. And on the day of the great judgement he shall be cast into the fire. And heal the earth which the angels have corrupted, and proclaim the healing of the earth, that they may heal the plague, and that all the children of men may not perish through all the secret things that the 8 Watchers have disclosed and have taught their sons. And the whole earth has been corrupted 9 through the works that were taught by Azazel: to him ascribe all sin.'

Only in the Gospel of Judas which is not considered valid by the vast majority of scholars.

Jesus the lamb without blemish was slain.

Judas was empowered by darkness, driven out where he took his own life.
In the Sanctuary teaching, the Lamb represents Jesus, who was slain for our sins... At the yearly Holy Day of the Atonement, a portion of the blood collected from the many lambs slain (symbolizing Jesus' death on the Cross for you and me) was put upon the head of the SCAPEGOAT and he was lead away out into the wilderness, never to return to the camp.

There were NO SINS laid on Judas other than his own. He carried no other persons sins. No, there is no // between Judas and the scapegoat, anymore than any other sinner who refuses to repent and turn from their sins.
