  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My e-mail address etc. were just hacked. Some of my family and friends received e-mails saying that I was in London and ill and needed money to get transportation home.

The truth is I have never been in London in my life. My relatives were smart enough to check with "the Newf." my wife first.

A grandmother in our area has a grandson in the arm forces, and she received an e-mail saying her grandson had been injured and needed money for medical treatment. She was the trusting sort, and so she made her way down to her local bank to get a money order for her grandson.

The grandmother usually went to the same bank teller and luckily she did the same that morning.

The bank teller noticed that she was very nervous and not really her self, so the teller inquired what the trouble was and the little old grandmother "spilled the beans".

As the story unfolded and the teller locked her money drawer and said "I am not giving you any money orders today." The teller went on, "This is a scam. If your grandson is in the military and is injured the military will take care of his medical expenses without asking you for money."

The sob stories can break all our hearts and sad to say hackers know just how to spin the lies to rob our hearts and bank accounts.

Maybe I am a little too cautious due to the scares that I have recently heard of and experienced.

I guess all I'm saying is, don't send money to anybody off the inter-net. Money should be handled face to face or with known trusted businesses.

I got an email from a friend last year that was exactly as you described. I thought it interesting that he had been in London with no way to get home and yet failed to mention it to me when we had had lunch together earlier that afternoon.

Almost same thing here. My grandmother actually got a telephone call from someone pretending to be me - in London with no money for gas to put in my car.

They hung up pretty fast when she responded with something like "but my grandson doesn't drive". Not to mention the part where I've never been to London and my family would know about this if I was.
