• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I said that I find it very difficult to work with people who have the "its not my job attitude".

I used to feel the same way. But I'll tell you the truth, that some companies prefer people to just to what they are told, and to do it right. It's hard to find people who can do that sometimes.

I think it may depend on the company also, how they take that attitude.

Being that I am 38 years old and probably have had that many jobs I have enough sense to know what an employer wants. I was actually proud that I gave credit to God.

Oh and it must have worked I am going in tomorrow to discuss salary and benefits.

For God's sake, if you're going to ask for people's opinions and then turn into a sarcastic, nasty person when you receive them...DON'T ASK FOR THEM.

I TOLD YOU TO GO AHEAD AND GIVE CREDIT TO GOD, OR DID YOU MISS THAT PART?

And if you have so much sense and already KNOW what the employer wanted, WHY DID YOU ASK THE OP????

First, I didn't read all the responses, but I will later.

My answer: I have always given God credit when I interview and I've never interviewed for a job that I have not gotten.

I say, GOOD FOR YOU. It takes courage and faithfulness to stand up for our God.

I'm PROUD of you, Laurie!!!!

Why are you yelling at me. I don't even know you, you shouldn't be yelling at me.

The reson for the original post was really to see what everyone thought of telling someone from the beginning they are a believer.

that goes against the fair rights act though and if anyone was neglected a job because of relegious beleifs they could potentailly sue the company. Wether that is Christ-like behavor though is another issue entirely

Laurie you've shown this type of manipulation before and it's this reason why I hardly ever read your posts anymore.

First off... I commend your bravery for giving God credit in your life. For the future, you might want to answer the question a little bit differently.

For the first question: To what do you attribute successes?
When you say God's grace, you should elaborate a bit more. What skills/ attributes has God given you that have helped you succeed? God equips us to succeed if we are doing his Work. An answer like this might have been better.

"I believe God's grace has allowed me to be successful in my previous jobs. I have been blessed with an ability to interact with people in a compassionate manner. My excellent communication and listening skills have helped me to stand out in my work environment."

You might expose some prejudice in your employer, but remember, God has a plan for you. And if you don't get the job, then it wasn't in God's plan

Jer 29:11 (NIV) "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

And that's EXACTLY what I suggested for her to do, and she flat-out rejected the idea.

It's alright because if you disagree with someone on the board you are either:

1) Sinner
2)idiot
3)being mean/disrespectful
4) stating you're better than everyone else
5) Bringing the board down/making it heavy

Why is it on every thread asking for an opinion someone wants to start a fight? If you get offended that easily when people disagree don't ask for their opinion. If you can't state your opinion without being argumentative then don't state it at all. This is just a message board and honestly it ain't worth all the stuff everyone starts with each other. I've only been active here a month and everytime someone asks for an opinion, they end up getting offended when someone states theirs and it becomes someone either playing the victim or starting a fight that turns into a 30 page thread that gets closed.

It seems like that question was geared toward seeing if you can recognize your personal qualities that lead to your successes and your personal qualities which may need improvement. While God might play a role in this personally for you, it won't mean much to the employer. If anything, it might suggest that you aren't able to easily recognize your strengths and weaknesses. This may or may not matter much to the company depending on the job and your other answers, but its generally a bad idea to say something that may look bad. Err on the side of caution.

I don't think its necessarily bad to bring up your beliefs, you just have to do it in the right context. For example, perhaps they'll ask you about your motivation in life--you might say that your positive outlook is directed by the fact that God gave you one life and one chance to do some good in the world. If you bring it up out of context, they may be afraid you'd do the same thing on the job. This looks very bad to companies that have to deal with the general public, which is made up of many different people with many different beliefs. They can't afford projecting any sort of bias.

Like Ohio.

I like what the OP did. I don't have much expertise in filling out Job applications but congrats anyway!!
Just remember to act as you say! It may be an important opportunity.
