  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Obviously I don't need to tell anyone how moving it was!!

I don't mean to nitpick, but am I the only one confused over the portrayal of Satan smiling while Jesus was being tortured; by my understanding Satan was gutted that Jesus was being tortured because the prophecies that would help people follow Jesus were coming true?

Also can anyone explain the evil baby to me?

He didn't know. I heard a teaching by Perry Stone that is very detailed about how God kept satan from knowing about the power of blood...that it is life, etc...and that if satan knew that if by shedding His blood that mankind could be saved, he would have fought like crazy to keep Jesus from being crucified. I took it to mean that satan had no idea about the power of His blood.

You could see it like this, he knew what was going on, but didn't do anything as he saw how the outcome would be.

Look at it now, all jews will 'burn in hell' if your a true christian believer. As they do not believe in the jesus story. Personally, i think this is obscure, the people whom are suppose to be the choosen ones, are suddenly not that, and are to burn forever?

I love all people, religion aside, thats my view atleast.

I have not yet seen The Passion, but I am going tomorrow night with my best friend. Anyways, from what I was told, the evil baby represents one of two things: either the sins of every person or Satan's son.
I heard that the baby represents sin.

I just got back from the movie and was wondering what the baby did represent. At any rate, that was one NASTY looking baby.

I refer to it as, The Ugly Baby. As for the meaning, I'm not sure. I took it as if Satan was mocking Jesus. No matter what the meaning, I agree. Creepy looking kid.

Yeah I believe that it does.

If you have ever read Paradise Lost sin is Satan's daughter.
Which would explain when Satan is talking to Jesus and says, "Sin is too much for one man to carry." Then later, the showing of sin was to show and try to intimidate Christ into not accepting the burden, obvisouly Satan failed. :D

Many people are talking about the "ugly baby" in The Passion. As Jesus is being severely scourged, Satan passes through the crowd holding a demonic-looking "child" in his arms. What does it mean? Perhaps the best explanation comes from Mel Gibson himself. In a recent interview, Gibson said of the unsettling scene:

"...it's evil distorting what's good. What is more tender and beautiful than a mother and a child? So the Devil takes that and distorts it just a little bit. Instead of a normal mother and child you have an androgynous figure holding a 40-year-old 'baby' with hair on his back. It is weird, it is shocking, it's almost too much--just like turning Jesus over to continue scourging him on his chest is shocking and almost too much, which is the exact moment when this appearance of the Devil and the baby takes place."

For our part, we feel this scene captures, as do so many moments in this film, the intensity of the cosmic battle between God and Satan. It illustrates even beyond what we may have previously envisioned the eerie, warped and perverted nature of our enemy.
