• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

saved...or not

Hi all,

Who recognizes this:

Being a christian for many many years already (being raised in the gospel) and longing to a close relationship with God and Christ, but sometimes so terribly doubting if all what the bible says is really true. If Jesus really was and is the Son of God, if He really took away our sins and if He did, if I really accepted Him in my life and if I am really saved.

Prayed often to God and asked Him in Jesus name to show me that I am saved, but still this doubts keep coming: what if it is all not true.

How can I get that complete peace in my heart that Gods Word promises?

We all have doubts sometimes. Early in your Christian life, you'll have a lot of doubts, but as you get to know God those doubts will get fewer and less frequent.

Hang in there, study your Bible, get Christian friends, listen to Christian radio, really develop your relationship with Christ, and the doubts will subside.

um, how? good question. I used to have the same problem, just early this year if i remembered correctly. well, what i did was to hold onto Him and refused to let go. I started praying more and seeking more, and recounting the experiences i had in Him in the past few years. It was amazing how i could keep doubting Him when He has shown me countless time that He was real.

i think the number of these counts convinced me at last, along with the fact that i cannot live without His love. I tried imagining what it'd be like, living with God out of my life.......

hope this helps, mauricio, i'm praying for you.

I've had these problems too in the past. There have been times in my walk where I've doubted and misunderstood Gods truth and followed my own truth. I felt like God was so distant from me. I've grown a bit since then and I've noticed that even in those times of doubt and denial, God was right there working in me. The Holy Spirit is a powerful thing.

I sometimes doubt some of the things in the Bible myself. Don't be ashamed. Some of it is very hard to understand especially when there are so many opinions floating around.

I can say that what finally gave me peace about my walk with the Lord is saying "you know what, God? I don't understand this and I don't like what it says. But I trust that you are God and you are in complete control of all things and I'm not. Your mind is bigger than mine. So I give my doubts and confusion up to you in hope that someday, you'll give me peace about the issue."

I can honestly say that some of the stuff I used to struggle with, I don't anymore. The Lord has given me peace. Now, I still have doubts and doubts will probably continue to spring up for the rest of my life from time to time. Everyone has doubts about certain things. But now, when I do have those doubts, I see them as a chance for God to teach me something new. God is slowly making things He wants for me clear as I go through life. When I surrender my doubts to Him, he always seems to give me peace.

My suggestion is to pray and give your doubts up to the Lord and then let them go. Let God be God and I know that He'll give you peace in your heart.

Thanks a lot, all of you! It comforts me to know that I am not the only one with this kind of doubts...
I must admit that I tell myself several times: "You have to invest more time in your relationship with God, what will make your faith stronger". And I guess that is what I really should do starting today. Taking enough time every day to read in the Bible and pray to God.

Thanks for your help and God bless you

All the tragety that I have had in the past 3 months has taught me one thing. You either do the WILL OF GOD, or you don't. Now if its NOT the will of God than who's will is it? hmmmmmmmm.
Questioning you salvation is exalty what the devil wants you to do...for he is the devil of doubt. Believe in Gods written word..it is ALL true.
Stand on it.
mauricio did you confess with your mouth that you are a sinner? Did you Christ to be your savoiur? If you did this, then you are saved. That is what HIS word says and I am not going to question it or allow anything to make me believe otherwise. What is next after salvation? Obedience. So...what do we, as children of God need to do to be obedient? Get baptized. Have you done that mauricio? If you have...there is no questining, no doubt, nothing but salvation plus you have even been obedient!

Here is how the devil works. If you not saved, he does everything to get you to salvation. If you get saved he does everything he can to keep you from being obedient (baptism) if you have ben saved and baptized he does everything to keep you from growning as a mature Christian. He makes you doubt, he messes with your life, he whispers in your ear...Does God REALLY saith?

Please concider this verse.
Ephesians 1:13 _In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

You were sealed. Bottom line. Its there and NO man can take it away from you! God doesn't change, niether does his WORD. The only thing that changes is man.
I hope this helps. I have not been on here in awile. Hello to everyone.

Hi GEL!

Great post.:) But now you've got me wondering about something. Could it be that *doubting our salvation* is, in and of itself, a SIN?? I mean, isn't it almost like an insult to Jesus? Was his death not enough? I am so happy that you do not doubt your salvation, and I do not doubt my salvation.

Of course we all may have fleeting doubts that come in our minds, which we quickly recognize as a lie from Satan. But it concerns me when people continually doubt and don't understand that all of their sins are under the blood. I think Satan enjoys getting us to doubt the power of Jesus' shed blood.

And if a person continually doubts, I don't see how they are trusting God. I don't mean to sound critical of people, only trying to get them to see that we are commanded to trust God, and that it must sadden God when we don't trust Him with our salvation. Surely, it must be a sin to sadden the heart of God.

Ask any christain if they have had doubts and i can guarantess you at least 9 out of 10 will say yes.

Ive been a christain for 8 years and ive doubted so much that ive given up faith several times. Fortunatly ive always come back and god has rearlly been shaping me over the last 3 years :) I always dounbtd the people that say the doubts will be easier to overcme and less frequant but it is true :)

New christains have it tougth. I will encourage you to read your bible as often as possible even if its just a few chapaters and god will use his word not just to speak to you but to enable you to speak to others. Secondly pray as often as you can for eveything :p even if it seems trivial pray bacause i often say ill pray for that later and forget :( gradually your spirit will grow and as you do more of what god has called you to so will your faith :)

Auntie_Belle_Um,

trusting God is one thing that we learn by experience. We trust Him, He answers. We trust Him, He doesn't answer (meaning He has answered). Doubting God indeed, shows a lack of faith, but i believe every Christian has a unique road to walk, every experience is unique in itself, for God touches each one personally. I think doubting God first of all involves faith (maybe not a complete one), for if i didn't believe in Him, i wouldn't have doubted Him.

Blessings.
