  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi my friends in Christ.

I have a theological question. In the Old Testament they had to respect Saturdays, but now we celebrate Sundays as the Lord's day.

I understand that Jesus fulfilled the law and because of His Resurrection now we celebrate Sundays, and we try to abtain work, have rest and have more time with Him on Sundays.

But how should we act on Saturdays now? Are we free to work? What should we do?

Zoleee,
re: "I understand that Jesus fulfilled the law and because of His Resurrection now we celebrate Sundays..."

It might be interesting, though, to note that scripture is silent with regard to anyone celebrating the 1st day of the week in honor of the resurrection

It's an interesting question, because here in Hungary Monday is the 1st day of the week, and Sunday is the 7th.

Jesus Christ is the Sabbath rest for Christians, for he is the Lord of the Sabbath. As a result, we are not required to keep the Sabbath as part of the Law. This is part of the freedom we have in Christ. Still, if someone consider one day more important than another, this is fine. Or if another considers all days equally important, this too is fine.

You can see the explanation in Romans 14

However, for the sake of good order, and because it's more or less universally accepted that we should gather on Sunday, we may do so, but it shouldn't be confused with the Old Testament idea of keeping the Sabbath :)

Christians originally gathered on Sundays to separate themselves from Judaism and also because Sunday is the day of the resurrection of Christ. Strictly speaking, there is nothing in the New Testament that forbids anyone to work on either Saturday or Sunday. But if we choose to work on a day that others consider holy (which is no sin in itself), and it somehow shakes their faith, then it becomes a sin, for by exercising our Christian freedom, we are causing our brother to stumble. (Again, this is what Romans 14 talks about)

In short: We don't really have to worry about days, but it's good to be mindful of people that do.

Yes, Yeshua (Jesus) fulfilled the law, but he did not abolish/destroy the law. He fulfilled it by obeying every command, but he also said not one jot or tittle will pass from the law until all is fulfilled (Matthew 5:17-19). The law and the prophets have aspects that have not been fulfilled yet.

All Ten Commandments remain in effect for New Covenant believers. That includes the 7th day Sabbath. Based on Hungary's geographical location, you should begin your 7th day shortly after Israel begins theirs.

There is nothing wrong with worshiping YHWH seven days a week, but it is wrong to work on the 7th day.

You should not judge people about sabbath :

Colossians 2:16
Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.

Because we must rest our hearts in Jesus everyday, not in Saturday or Sunday only.

May Jesus bless you all HalleluYAH

My heart rests in Yeshua everyday. That does not give me a right to break my Heavenly Father's commandments.

Colossians 2:16, in context, actually says the opposite. "Anyone" refers to the deceivers of verses 4, 8 & 18 who were not part of the Body of Messiah. They were trying to tell the Colossians how they should behave but they had no right to since they were not believers. Elsewhere, Paul tells believers that we are to judge those within the Body of Messiah and let YHWH judge those outside the Body (1 Corinthians 5:9-13). If we fail to justly judge brethren that sin or that teach falsely, then we allow corruption to enter the Body and sicken it. That is why Paul commanded the Corinthians to put away a fellow believer. They were to judge that man as a corrupting influence and put him out of the assembly.

If i want to eat pork nobody should judge me
If i dont celebrate any festival or sabbath nobody should judge me.

Any believer who loves you will correct you so that you don't continue in sin. If you do not want to receive correction, that is your choice, but believers must correct (in a spirit of meekness) those in error (Galatians 6:1).
