Satan tries to confuse us

Jesus makes a big deal about truth because only the truth sets you free. Satan is the father of lies, a master in deceving, and satan wants you to believe anything other than the teachings of Jesus. The truth is that believing in Jesus saves you from your sin and saves you for eternal life. In John 8 v 32 Jesus says the truth will set you free, and because Jesus frees you from the bondage of sin, satan will whisper lies to you over and over again, hoping you'll believe his tricks and get confused. God is not a God of confusion. (1 Cor 14 vs 33)
When you feel confused or overwhelmed, turn to the bible and read the truth of the words of God. The bible makes a big deal about truth because lies will lead you astray. Stay focused on the truth of God's word.

The devil is the author of confusion. That is why there are so many factions in Christianity and so many cults and false religions in the world. God placed eternity in our hearts. He placed an awareness of eternity in our hearts. It goes by many names "hole in the soul" "the Christ shaped hole in our soul" "the hunger for God" etc. And the devil since he cannot stop the truth rather beleaguers the truth seeker with a barage of counterfeits.

He also in his tactics rarely uses the blitzkrieg method. Rather than the full frontal assault, he will circle and look for a weakness in the rear ranks. He will lure us with compromise and ever so slightly with deception. At sea a ship that gets off course even a few degrees will not end up where it heading to originally.

It shocks people to hear that this is as true inside the Church as outside. Think not? Compare divorce statistics with the Churched and the Unchurched. The Churched is actually a percentage point higher (last time I looked) at 53% of marriages in the Church end up in divorce.

The devil went to war with the Church from the Apostolic age to the 4th Century AD. The harder he pressedthe more the Church grew because the seedbed of the Church is the blood of its martyrs. So, since the devil could not defeat the Church, he essentially joined the Church beginning with Constantine's edict that Christianity was from that point legal in the Roman Empire.

Over the next 1600 years the devil has been prodding and provoking and pontificating with a few moments of refrain (the Protestant Reformation and more recently the Jesus movement which was antidenominationalism but eventually became a series of denominations as well even though they claim to be nondenominational).

Don't fool yourselves into thinking Satan is just a toothless old cowardly lion. He and his followers are busily engaged in trying to thwart God's plans and to keep as many souls as possible away from the truth and to kep as many saved souls as they can busily chasing their own and each others' tails instead of doing the work of Christ.
