  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

After being born agian, can I loose my salvation?
You can reject it but there is no limit to the amount of sin that Jesus will forgive if you repent and have faith in Him.

After being born again, can I loose my salvation?
Hello Justin, the Lord makes clear (in John 6:44) that no one can come to Him apart from the drawing of us by His Father. He then goes on to tell us that ~all~ who are so drawn (by the Father) will ~never~ be lost :amen: There are a few other verses from Gospel of John below to consider as well.

John 3
16 God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have ~eternal~ life.

John 5

24 He who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, ~has~ eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but ~has passed~ out of death into life.

John 6
37 ~All~ that the Father gives Me ~will~ come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.
38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
39 This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of ~all~ that He has given Me ~I LOSE NOTHING~, but raise it up on the last day.
40 For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”

44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.

John 10

27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;
28 and I give ~eternal~ life to them, and they will ~never~ perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.

...if you lead a perfect life....
How can someone lead a “perfect life”? Perhaps I should also ask, what do you mean by a “perfect life”? (Romans 3:23)

Thanks!

—David
p.s. - One last thought, if we can lead a “perfect life”, what need would we have for a Savior/why did Jesus come here and die that horrible death on the Cross for us? Thanks again!

Hebrews 9
22 Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

No. The life we receive at the new birth is eternal. You can lose the experience in this life and rewards in the next life. But no, those who are born again will never die. (John 11:25)

All not, some are sinless because either way we will be lower than angels, because they are sinless. Apostle meant most. Perfect life you can lead by avoiding sin and when you become born again you are perfect.

Hello again Goodhuman, I'll be 64 this year, and 34 years a Christian, but I have yet to meet (or hear of) anyone who is sinless/does not need a Savior, Christian or non-Christian (save the Lord Himself, of course).

As for the Apostle meaning "most" instead of "all" (when he said, "all have sinned" in v23), fortunately for us he made his meaning clear a little bit earlier in the same chapter. So, please take special note of the qualifying phrase (which I will highlight in bold) that the Apostle Paul used to define/qualify what he meant by his use of the word "none" (so that there is no question about his meaning).

Romans 3
9 Both Jews and Gentiles are all under sin;
10 as it is written,
“THERE IS ~NONE~ RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;
11 THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS,
THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD;
12 ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS;
THERE IS ~NONE~ WHO DOES GOOD,
THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE.”

--David
p.s. - the Apostle also makes it clear that we (Christians) were all sinners, just like everybody else (until we were born again), that we too were all, "dead in our trespasses and sins" .. "even as the rest".

Ephesians 2
1 You were dead in your trespasses and sins,
2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.
3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature, children of wrath, ~even as the rest~

God loves us very much and has absolutely no desire for any of us to lose our salvation. However, becoming a Christian is not a momentary decision, but a commitment to follow Jesus for the rest of our lives. When we commit our lives to Christ, we must take up our cross daily and follow Him. We are called to persevere in the faith.

Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and your hearers. (1 Timothy 4:16 NRSV).

For you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.(Hebrews 10:36 NRSV)

For we have become partners of Christ, if only we hold our first confidence firm to the end (Hebrews 3:14 NRSV)

Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres (1 Corinthians 13:7 NRSV).

Blessed is anyone who endures temptation. Such a one has stood the test and will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. (James 1:12 NRSV).

I am coming soon, hold fast to what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. (Revelation 3:11 NRSV).

God bless you.

So your we can loose are salvation?
There are many different views on whether people can lose their salvation, so you will get varying responses from people here, depending on their theological traditions and experience and the teaching of their particular denomination.
My own view is that our salvation is secure as long as we continue to believe and trust in Jesus and follow Him faithfully for the rest of our lives. Our salvation isn't just a one off event. Being baptised and saying the "sinners prayer" is just the beginning of our journey. The Christian life is a lifetime process of sanctification. In fact there are three "tenses" used in the Bible to describe our salvation. We are saved (2 Timothy 1:9), being saved (1 Corinthians 1:18, Philippians 2:12-13) and will be saved (Romans 13:11).
Can we reject Christ and lose our salvation? I believe that is possible. But it is important to remember that no matter how many times we have failed and keep returning to God, He will abundantly forgive.

So we are saved but being saved but will be saved? I just don't quite understand.
There are many different understandings of what the term "saved" properly means. This will differ amongst different branches of Christianity, especially Protestants and Catholics, and there are even differences of opinion amongst Protestants.

My take on it is as follows:

We are saved, first through justification, when we admit that we are sinners and place our trust in the atonement of Christ. This is a gift of God that cannot be earned by our own works or merit. Through our baptism and our faith in Christ, we are cleansed from our sins and begin a new life with Him. The old life has gone, and the new has come.

Next, we are sanctified by God's grace, by the Holy Spirit who lives and works in us helping us to live godly lives. We will grow in the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. We are called to persevere in our faith, to study the word, obey Jesus's commandments and teaching. We continue to acknowledge and turn away from ours sins and to resist evil. We are called to love God and our neighbour as ourselves. We show evidence of our faithfulness to Christ by our works. Our works do not save us but they spring out of a lively faith.

At the final judgement, our lives are evaluated on the basis of whether we have accepted Jesus and have lived our lives faithfully for Him. We look forward to the day when He says to us "Well done, good and faithful servant".

The Christian life is not easy. None of us are perfect. Even as Christians, we fall into sin. But no matter how many times we fall down, we can get up again. God will abundantly forgive. We can have full confidence and hope that God who has begun a good work in us will bring it to completion, but we must always continue to walk with Him, talk with Him, and ask Him to help us. He will not force any of us to do so. Remember the rich young ruler in Matthew 19:22 who had followed Jesus, obeyed all the commandments, but ultimately walked away, deciding that his love for the world was far too compelling. Jesus didn't run after him to call him back. He made no compromises or concessions. He simply told his disciples the rich man had made his choice (Matthew 19:23). That is the same choice we face as Christians, day by day.

It was the same with the Apostle Paul. He taught the church at Philippi to "continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling" (Philippians 2:12). Faith in Christ was not something to be taken for granted. There were no "holidays" away from Christianity. The Christian faith was their way of life and in many cases, it was a faith they were ready to die for.

Are we forgiven for past, present and future sins? If so why does this verse say past? Romans 3:25 (KJV) Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

Romans 3
25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed. (NASB)

Hello Justin, in His forbearance, God withheld His judgment (of OT believers) until the blood of His Son could finally atone for their sins and satisfy His wrath against them .. e.g. Romans 5:8-10; Hebrews 10:4.

God bless you!

—David
p.s. - question, if any of our sins, past, present and/or future, are not forgiven by the blood/by the atoning sacrifice of the Jesus on the Cross, by what other means can they possibly be forgiven?

Hebrews 9
22 Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.

Hebrews 10

4 It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

Ok, and I was thinking he shed his blood for the remission of our past sins, then whatever we do after we are born agian we will be judged for...or something like that. I've been taught since I started going to church routinely, that we have to repent of our sins routinely, or when we sin so we won't be judged for them
But I want to believe other wise, that his grace and his blood was enough..for everything. So I'm not always wondering if I'm saved or not or wondering if I'm going to be forgiven all the time for my sins or always trying to be good enough....
