Has anyone of you seen this movie about her or heard any comments on it? I'm working on my courses for next year, and am trying to find some good movies on the saints:

I saw Song of Bernadette that was originally filmed in the 40's.

Problem is... it must be a generally available film, otherwise I can't get it with subtitles here in Belgium.
I had a good experience in showing my children (okay... the children of my classes) "Mary, mother of Jesus." I'm thinking of setting that up somewhere in the beginning of next year, since most children come into the class knowing absolutely nothing about Jesus, and this gives a quick overview of the 'highlights' so to speak, which can warm them up for when we delve deeper.

Song of Bernadette was awesome, that's for sure.

The book that the movie was based on was written by an orthodox Jewish author, Franz Werfel, who in attempting to get out of France to escape Nazi arrest, fled south and stopped in Lourdes before going over the Pyrenees to Spain. He was so impressed with the faith of the people and the story of Bernadette, that he vowed to God that if he escaped to safety, he would write a book about her. He eventually did get to Spain and then to the US, where the rest, as they say, was history.

It sounds Ok, authentic and a true representation of events. The only comment I'd make is it is quite long (2hours) so it might need to be viewed in segments if you were doing it in class. It is approved by the domain in Lourdes but I wouldn't want to comment on it's quality, not having seen it through. You could take a weekend jaunt to Lourdes and try and watch it there, as it's shown daily!!

Don't tempt me! I filled my vacation up completely. I NEED the time I have not yet filled up with plans to work, and still maintain that holiday feeling. *L* I do wish to go back to Lourdes though. Perhaps in a year or two...
It's the quality I'm worried about mostly, with a Vatican recommendation, I think the contents would be good, but well... quite a few Christian movies I have seen are rather sub par on acting and film making.

Eva- the movie is great (Bernadette has actually been given this movie twice, LOL!). My only complaint is that the actress who plays Bernadette used to be on the soap opera I used to watch- and If I can just block that out of my mind- I'm good.....

For someone who hasn't seen the soap opera (but has not a good impression of soap opera actors' capacities.. *W*) how is the acting in general? And the dialogue?
