Our church moved maybe an hours walk from our place

So should we taxi or watch Adventist tv sermon that day, as we have disability

I believe any from my church will know immediately who I am
During the months that they moved only 2 people made deliberate contact to say hello how are you

Many members think it's ok to taxi, say a $40 return trip
Over $2,000 per year

Church manual has a section on disability, says about making sure that they can get to service

When I asked Members would they use a pre-paid gas card, they answer was no, even tho they served them selves

Members of church think it would be good to witness?.

Hello driver, our church doesn't believe in shopping, making one work or the trade of goods and services on the sabbath

Driver says, that sounds great, when is sabbath

That is tough. According to the Jewish Law, walking any distance (over a mile, I think) on the Sabbath is work. Good luck with that.

If no one wants to transport you then maybe find a church that is closer or one that will provide transportation for you to get there. There are a lot of churches out there.

distance is about 4.5 KM or 2.79 miles each way, so at about 5.6 miles

Yes I walk a bit during the week, wife is Wheelchair dependent, I can not always walk big destances
and no one has offered to walk this distance with us, not even Pastor.

We have a Pentecostal across the road from us,
Our church is unwilling to get an adaptive vehicle, various Pastors have been asked.
Not being able to see past their own nose, they can't grasp who in the church it would assist.

Heck my home baptist church would have fundraised for such a vehicle if the need was present, they did this to get two care-centre vans, when I was much younger..

so I am quite saddened by this, and the thought comes to mind.

20% (1:5) have disability or are senior
60% (3:5) middle age (age 20-60)
20% (1:5) young

what happens when the numbers flip and 60-80% are disability or senior?? will the young say
"sorry boss, you never taught us to give a blank, what do you want us to do?"

Choose Christ - who scrupulously kept the sabbath better than anyone.

One does not need to be a Jew to keep a Saturday sabbath.

Most churches have a bulletin board. You could request a ride offering to pay a small amount I don't know your situation with your belief but I am unable to attend church for your reasons also and I just watch church Tv all day on my Sabbath.

I am sorry that you are in such a situation with your church members. Under the circumstances, my choice would be to watch TV on the Sabbath, and see if there are mid week services that you can attend at your church, so that you can stay in touch.

Since you are SDA and so obliged to follow their laws, I don't know how we can help you apart from praying for you.

Get real. The camp sites of the Hebrew people were shaped like a foot. The reason for this is that the most they were permitted to walk on the sabbath is to the toilet. Everyone that goes to church violates the literal restriction. I had a friend that was a truck driver and he did not drive his truck on the Sabbath. But he would still go to eat in a restaurant and that required someone to work on the sabbath.

At the time to go outside of the camp to gather sticks was punishable by death. I do not know what that represents for us today though. I would have to put some research into it. Do they have church on saturday or sunday

Not so many SDA churches though.

They do seem to be few and far inbetween. Nothing is impossible for God. There should be someone in your area that can transport you. My wife lives two miles from where she works and she never has any problems to get a ride with someone. Because they do not have to go out of their way. Although she says it is because she throws $5 their way every now and then to help pay for gas.

I have seen many Adventist drive to church. Call your Church and let them know your need. I am sure they will find someone willing to pick you both up weekly.

There is an SDA forum on this board... but I would say that I have seen several cases where members could not attend unless someone drove them and so members that were on the way to church would pick up those members.

For sure I would watch Adventist/Christian programming that day whether you can also attend church or not -- that is what I do.

But my first suggestion is to contact the pastor and ask if there are members who are available to pick you up.

I don't know what the "prepaid gas card" comment is about or "even though they served themselves" statement. What is that about in connection with this topic?

Taxi is within God's law for that purpose. God desires mercy ...

Heb_10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

While TV is a benefit in certain situations, it cannot replace the gathering together in person where possible.

Yes, it is an opportunity to witness, and to invite said person to join in, or invite to bible study, etc.

The priests, and even guards of the city would still do their sacred duties.

Angels travel on the sabbath (from earth to heaven; Matthew 18:10). Jesus travelled on the sabbath (Luke 6:1).

The commandment itself, says nothing about sitting in a room all day and no travelling:

Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

It just says, do not do any common work. The taxi driver is not your man or maidservant in your personal employ. They do perform a service being in the employ of another, and you do not own them, nor employ them. It is an exchange of travel for 'currency' (it could well be anything of value to them, even a simple thanks).

As for having the taxi driver drive one to church, he is performing a valuable service, it is in effect a 'ministry' to you for that day. Even a Pastor ministers in the day and receives his wages (1 Corinthians 9:1-14; 2 Corinthians 11:8). It is not as if you are asking the taxi driver to do personal pleasure or business of the world, which also falls within the bounds of Isaiah 58:13.
