Well actually ancient Israel in Malachi did not tithe righteously; she gave sick lambs and what would be detestable for governmental authorities to eat. In other words, Israel gave to the priests what she would not give the governor (Mal 1:13).

Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.

Precisely, if we were to include what we pay for taxes to the government, we would pay about 30% of our income.

Yes, this is part of what is wrong. (btw, you mean Mal. 1:8, yes?) We give better gifts to others than we give to God ... and we give more thoughtfully and heartfelt than we do when we tear off 10% by mere obligation.

Good points.

Tithe's and rest to me are like all things to me, Christ the end of the law. Since God's
desire is to be All in All (according to Paul), then these things we say , yes
this is good or yes this is not good or how about this or how about that find
there substance in Christ, the one hope of our calling.

Now if ancient Israel did not tithe righteously; because she gave sick lambs to the priests; how can we be sure that we truly pay a tenth of what the ground produces in its strength? The pharisees were known for paying their tithes, they also criticized Yeshua the lawkeeper for not keeping the Sabbath holy, however they left the other weightier matters from the law undone like mercy, judgement, and faith (Matt 23:23)?

Is it lawful to show mercy to a sheep in trouble during the Sabbath?

The answer to this is so simple if you rightly divide the scripture. If you are a jew and under the law, you should tithe. If you are under grace you should give as the LORD prospers you, as paul teaches. You determine in your own mind what you should give. Since I discovered this truth, I give more than I ever did and do it joyfully. It is not a bill I have to pay anymore. Go to Pauls wrintings for church doctrines since the Bible states over and over that he is the apostle to the Gentiles. When you mix up the teachings to the jews under law and the teachings to the Gentiles under grace you have the Bible contradicting itself..I am so thankful I am a dispensationalist. The Bible is like a new book to me and so much easier to understand. It answered so many questions that had bothered me and increased my faith. and the Bible does not contradict itself anymore. I don't know how I missed these facts for so many years. THey are taught so plainly that I wonder at being so blind and not seing them before I did.

Jesus still receives tithes today. No contradiction.

Hi Jedi!!

Depends upon what you mean by "tithes."

If you mean, as some in this thread have tried to say, that "NT" tithes can be whatever you joyously give, then there is no contradiction -- but then: don't call it a tithe.

If you mean what the Bible defines, then tithe is 10% -- move the decimal point, one out of ten, a tenth; it is NOT 9% or 11% or 5% or 20%. It is the tenth animal to pass under the rod; it is the best tenth of the harvest; it is the best tenth of the flock. But it is one out of ten. And there are (arguably) three tithes in the OT -- so your share should really be somewhere in the vicinity of 32%.

sorry, couldn't resist.
